John Moyer passed away on October 18th, 2021 at the age of 85. John was born in Casper, Wyoming on May 17th, 1936. His parents,

Jean and Anna Moyer, moved to Lincoln, Nebraska when John was a toddler. He graduated from Lincoln High School, where he met his future wife, Joyle Wiederspan.

They were married in 1958 in Lincoln. John graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineerin­g. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta social fraternity, Pi Tau Sigma, Sigma Tau, and Sigma Xi honorary fraterniti­es. He planned to be an Air Force pilot and completed the four year ROTC program at Nebraska where he held the position of Deputy Wing Commander, but due to poor eyesight had to resign from the program. John and Joyle moved to Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico in 1960. John went directly from college to work at Sandia National Labs where he spent 39 years there working in a variety of engineerin­g positions, including nuclear weapon security, weapon testing, and high-altitude rocket systems. He held one patent and was the project engineer on designing, developing and testing bombs along with designing the bomb proper for aircraft transporta­tion.

In Albuquerqu­e, John and Joyle raised a son and daughter. In the early years of marriage, John built and refurbishe­d household furniture, and also was the resident auto mechanic. He coached Little League baseball for years while his son was playing and enjoyed back-packing and fishing. He excelled at finding fish-less spots in streams and lakes. After retiring from Sandia in 1998, John took up golf and consistent­ly played for most of the rest of his life. John’s favorite activity was spending time with his family. John and Joyle enjoyed traveling in the states and foreign countries. Many of their stateside travels were in their RV- much of the time with family members. They belonged to the Sandia Roadrunner RV club. John also enjoyed playing games- card games being his favorite.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyle Moyer of 63 years; and son, Curt Moyer. He is survived by his daughter, Cori (Steve) Pruitt; his two brothers, Ed (Mary) Moyer and Bob Moyer; and his four grandchild­ren.
