Merten G. Fox passed away on March 28, 2020 after a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, Donna, sons Richard and Michael, two grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren.

Mert was born on October 6, 1935 in Bakersfield, CA and later moved to Seattle. He played basketball in high school, as well as slow-pitch softball and volleyball in later years. Mert met Donna Berg in 1957 on a blind date, and the two were married May 24, 1958. Sons Richard and Michael joined their family in 1959 and 1964, respectively. The family loved to camp together. They also enjoyed going to the boys’ sporting events, some of which Mert refereed for.

Mert joined the Navy in high school. He was a Navy veteran who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars in the Training Air Reserve program. He worked as a mechanic and flight engineer for the Navy’s planes. After retiring from the Navy in 1974, Mert moved with his family to

Albuquerque. Mert then used his excellent driving skills to begin a career driving his flatbed trailer truck, sometimes taking Donna on cross-country trips with him. Mert also worked for several security companies. He had a large garage and a talent for working with cars. Friends with car problems would bring their vehicles to Mert, who would fix the cars without charging for labor.

Mert’s kindness, generosity, honesty, and down-toearth nature made him a wonderful friend and led to a beautiful 62-year marriage. His example has helped his sons build strong families, and Mert’s legacy will live on in his loving and hardworking posterity.

Mert’s family is finally able to hold a memorial service in his honor. The service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on October 29, 2021, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel located at 12701 Indian School Rd NE.
