Man dies in one shooting; several injured in another
Police say a man was shot multiple times and killed early Saturday in Downtown Albuquerque, while multiple people were shot and injured at a house party on the West Side.
Gilbert Gallegos, a spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department, said the Downtown shooting occurred near Sixth and Copper NW. He said the Shot-Spotter gunshot detection system registered a dozen shots fired in the 100 block of Sixth Street at 1:09 a.m.
Responding officers “discovered a deceased male with numerous gunshot wounds,” Gallegos said. He said homicide detectives are investigating.
Police didn’t say whether they had a suspect in the shooting.
Around the same time, police say multiple people were shot on the West Side when a large house party was “suddenly interrupted by gunfire.”
Officers responded to the scene in the 10600 block of Fountain NW, near McMahon and Unser, at 1:10 a.m. after receiving a 911 call.
“Four people who were at the party suffered gunshot wounds to their legs, although none of the injuries were life-threatening,” APD said in an update provided Saturday night. “Gunfire also struck several homes and vehicles in the neighborhood. There were no reports of injuries at those homes.”
APD said detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit recovered several firearms during the investigation.
“This is the second time in as many months that large house parties resulted in a barrage of gunfire,” Police Chief Harold Medina said the news release. “Our detectives have identified several people involved, and they will work with the District Attorney’s Office to pursue charges against those who are responsible.”
