Sharon Rose Roberts
Sharon Rose (Bassuener) Roberts was born on August 16, 1941 as the second daughter of a GermanAmerican dairy farming family in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Sharon grew up milking cows, collecting eggs, and plowing alfalfa fields with her five sisters. Her family attended the Lutheran Church in the small town of Glenbeulah and Sharon won all the local 4-H sewing competitions.
She graduated from Elkhart Lake High School and for several years attended the teacher’s college at what would become University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. In her 20s, Sharon became a stylish ‘60s flight attendant for TWA flying to cities across the United States.
In the latter ‘60s she married a pilot and had two children, Wayne Roberts (b. 1968) and Linda (Roberts) Saslow (b. 1969). During the ‘70s Sharon raised her children in Southern California and spent her time dominating the local bowling leagues. In the late ‘70s, she completed a degree as a dental technician and worked in that industry for a decade.
When her children were in junior high, Sharon was offered her job back as a TWA flight attendant with her full seniority from all the years she had spent away from flying. She spent the ‘80s and ‘90s as a flight attending traveling internationally to London, Paris, Frankfurt and domestically to Maui. She lived in Milwaukee near family after her divorce and commuted to TWA’s hub in St. Louis. She traveled for pleasure to Spain, Italy, India, Hong Kong, Egypt and Israel. She was active in Stephen Ministries in Wisconsin.
Upon retirement in the new millennium, Sharon relocated to Rio Rancho, New Mexico where she bought a home and attended the Assembly of God congregation. Her passion in retirement was basket weaving and she won the blue ribbon at the 2008 and 2009 State Fair competitions and then served as a contest judge.
Sharon passed away on November 4, 2021 at age 80 from chronic disease she had struggled with for about a year. Sharon is survived by her son, daughter, and two granddaughters, Simone and Silvie Saslow, all living in California. Her five sisters reside in Wisconsin and Illinois.
