Jose Guadalupe Baca, age 100, a resident of Valencia, NM, joined our Lord and Savior on Monday, May 16, 2022. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Jose was an avid golfer and you would find him on any given golf course on any given day. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and he attended a Yankee Toronto game where he brought back a beautiful NY Yankee windbreake­r which he cherished all these years. Jose was a proud US Navy veteran, serving as a minesweepe­r on the USS Success. He served in Iwo Jima, Guadalcana­l, and the Philippine­s and was awarded the coveted 3 Star Ribbon along with many other metals and ribbons. Jose’s children and grandchild­ren were the light of his soul and when his wife, Sabrey, passed away in 2004 he took over being the guiding light for the Baca family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sabrey Baca; son, Thomas; parents, Tranquilin­o and Eleuteria Villalobos Baca; and several brothers and sisters. Jose is survived by his 4 children, James (Pat), Gerard (Peggy), Barbara Baca, and Dianna Quesada (Oscar); many grandchild­ren, great grandchild­ren, and great-great grandchild­ren; 1 brother, Pete Baca; and many loving nieces and nephews. A public viewing was held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m., and a rosary was recited at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with interment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearer­s were James Baca Jr., Israel Garcia, Michael Baca, Isaac Baca, Ronnie Baca, Johnny Romero, Daniel Quesada, and Gilbert Sanchez.
