AS THEY MADE US ★★

Drama, R, 96 minutes, 2022

First-time feature director Mayim Bialik shows a natural gift for pacing in this family drama about a young mom (Dianna Agron) always at the beck and call of her domineering mother (Candice Bergen) and dying father (Dustin Hoffman). But this is a depressingly downbeat story.

UNCHARTED ★★

Action adventure, PG-13, 116 minutes, 2022

A treasure hunter (Mark Wahlberg) recruits a street-smart hustler (Tom Holland) to help him find Magellan’s lost gold. It’s almost baffling how unmemorable these charismatic stars are together in a movie that tries to be everything but succeeds at very little.

INFINITE STORM ★★★

Drama thriller, R, 104 minutes, 2022

Naomi Watts fights through arguably the most physically and emotionally challenging role of her career as a mountain climber whose ascent of Mount Washington is interrupted by a storm, and then by a man in need of rescue. The thriller is at times almost too unbearably intense to watch but ultimately rewarding.

THE LOST CITY ★★

Adventure comedy, PG-13, 120 minutes, 2021

A romance novelist (Sandra Bullock) flees her kidnappers with the help of her book’s bumbling cover model (Channing Tatum) in a loud and unfunny and flat and derivative “Romancing the Stone” knockoff. The action sequences are muddled and rote, and the dialogue often crash-lands with a resounding thud.
