Jon Hotchkiss

-

Dr. Jon A. Hotchkiss, 67, formerly of Midland, MI, died peacefully at his Albuquerque, NM home on May 1, 2022, surrounded by his children and his favorite music. He was born October

19, 1954 in Bridgeton, NJ, to the late J. Douglas and Ann M. Hotchkiss. After pursuing his M.S. at the University of South Dakota and Ph.D at the University of Tennessee, he began his career in Inhalation Toxicology at the Lovelace Inhalation Toxicology Research Institute (Albuquerque), followed by a research and teaching position at Michigan State University, and ultimately joined the Dow Chemical Company (Midland) in 2001, from which he retired in 2020. Jon spent 19 years pioneering research in Inhalation Toxicology, and made many close friends and colleagues along the way.

Throughout his years, Jon remained an avid tennis enthusiast, a Science Fiction superfan, and a classic car collector. Photography was a passion of his, and the walls of his home tell the story of his life, from pictures of his travels across the world, to his love for his family and pets. As a terrific cook, Jon was especially proud of his grilling and smoking talents. And on any given day, he would find a way to incorporate his favorite ingredient, roasted Anaheim red and green chile, into his meals.

Jon is already dearly missed by those he left behind – sons Ian and Luke, daughter Jessie, sister Judy Wyks, friend Alice Parsons, and all of his cousins. His 4-legged family members will miss his kind and gentle heart, the scratches behind the ears, and of course, his pockets full of treats.

The family is planning a celebration of Jon’s life at his Albuquerque home Saturday August 27th. Please reach out to the family for details if you would like to attend. For those wishing to honor Jon’s memory, please consider donations to Basset Hound Rescue of Michigan, National Public Radio, or The Humane Society.
