What will you do once that baby is born?

-

WHAT ARE you going to do to care for that child after it is born? Just because the baby is alive doesn’t mean it can take of itself. Are you going to pay for the health care of the family and baby? Are you going to pay for child care when the parents have to go to work? Are you going to pay for the wages of mother who is ill or the father who is now a widower and has to care for child?

Are you going to pay to relocate and care for the teenage mom who got pregnant because of incest? Are you going to pay for the counseling of the mom who was raped and give her support to manage the trauma? Are you going to make sure that anyone who doesn’t want to get pregnant has access to birth control? Are you willing to risk the lives of your daughters, when they get pregnant, can’t tell you and go get an illegal abortion?

Do you know that a significant percentage of women who get abortions don’t believe in abortions? They are in impossible situations. They already have children they are having a hard time raising. They or their partner were laid off from work or has fallen ill. Their medical provider didn’t order their birth control in time, or they lost their health insurance.

Did you know that some women who want abortions were using their birth control correctly but the method failed?

What about your sister who is having a miscarriage? Will she get appropriate treatment to stop the bleeding or infection if the doctor is afraid she might be accused of doing an abortion?

Women have been having abortions for thousands of years. Making abortion illegal will not stop abortions. It will only make them unsafe. DR. LAURA STERN
