Reilly was born on Saturday,
April 1, 1933, and Brooklyn, NY and passed away peacefully in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, February 11, 2023. John used the G. I. bill to obtain his degree in Electrical Engineering. It was as an E.E. John accepted employment on Kirtland Air Force Base in 1974. He worked for the Navy on surface and subsurface nuclear weapons development, and the development of nuclear avionics systems. He worked for the Air Force on the development of new NATO systems, the development and evaluation of future Air Force weapons, storage and shipment of nuclear weapons and managing and evaluating the development of the cryogenic cooling systems before he retired at the age of 69.
He was the oldest of three brothers and was preceded in death by both of his brothers and parents. He has numerous nieces and nephews back East, and his closest childhood friend, Bob Seidenstein. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, "Betty" Elizabeth Reilly, children, Erin Rappold, and her husband, Charles, Christopher Reilly,
and his wife, Kathy, "Kelly" Colleen Orlovsky and her husband, John, Sean Reilly, and Ginger Rinner and her husband, Todd; 15 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandson. His greatest satisfaction is that all five of his children obtained doctoral degrees in their chosen fields. Fr. David Klein, his dearest friend in New Mexico, has also been a huge part of John’s life. John was a devout Catholic. He will forever be at peace in the arms of our Lord and in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption, 811 Guaymas Pl NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 with a Mass following at 11:00 a. m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a Catholic charity of your choice.
