Jimmy Lopez

-

Jimmy Lopez, age 60, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 10, 2023, after battling a long illness. Jimmy was born on August

12, 1962, in San Juan, Texas. His family moved to Albuquerque in

1969 and this became his home. He loved New Mexico in all its’ beauty! Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Linda of Bosque Farms; and sister, Diana of Rio Rancho, as well as numerous beloved cousins, aunts, uncles and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Elvira Lopez; and his in-laws, Wayne and Margaret Mansell.

Jimmy’s career was in the automotive business starting in tire retreads and moving to retail management until his health declined and he was no longer able to work. From a young age he was fascinated with automobiles and how they worked, saying he learned about the trade from his father. He was passionate about the Dallas Cowboys, NASCAR racing and his beloved best friends and pets (Skip and Coco). By far his favorite pastime and best memories was fishing with his high school friends and his dad at New Mexico’s most beautiful lakes. Jimmy was also a fabulous cook, always saying he learned from his mom and his mother-in-law. When he was his dad’s caregiver, he made sure Dad had good home cooked meals and on Sunday mornings we all enjoyed a good bowl of menudo. He had an incredible sense of humor even from childhood and his best childhood friends fondly remember all the good times and how he kept them laughing.

Jimmy was raised in the Assembly of God Church and reaffirmed his faith and commitment to the Lord and is now in his Savior’s presence. He is deeply missed but we will hold him close to our hearts forevermore knowing we will see him again! The family wishes to thank the UNM Neurosurgery team under Dr. Meic Schmidt, the occupational and physical therapists at Lovelace/UNM Rehabilitation Hospital and staff at Manzano del Sol Skilled Nursing Facility. Special thanks to Nurses Ohna and Meghan and provider Jason from Lovelace Medical Center for your loving, tender care of our loved one.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m., FRENCH – University, officiated by Pastor Josiah Botello and Chaplain Lynn Holloway of Lovelace Hospital Chaplain Services.
