WEEK 4 GAMES TO WATCH

- — James Yodice

1. La Cueva at Volcano Vista, Nusenda Community Stadium, 7 p.m. Friday: A top-notch pairing of what are probably Albuquerque’s two best prep football teams, and two of the elite in New Mexico. This is a playing-with-house-money type of game for the Hawks, who are the underdog here.

2. Las Cruces at Cleveland, 7 p.m. Friday: The Bulldawgs, by most accounts, are going to be reckoned with in their district, possibly challenging the likes of Centennial and Hobbs. They are probably not ready to topple a team like the Storm, and the Las Cruces offense is going to have to be especially sharp against that stingy Cleveland defense.

3. Los Lunas at Roswell, Wool Bowl, 7 p.m. Friday: Two former Class 5A rivals meet up in Chaves County, and this could prove be a very competitive matchup. Coyotes already have that vibe of a team on a mission; for the Tigers, a second straight demanding road game.

4. Artesia at Deming, 7 p.m. Friday: Class 5A’s top-ranked Bulldogs won two games against the Wildcats last year by a combined score of 106-19, and you know No. 3-ranked Deming must be extremely eager to make some amends. Easier said than done; this Artesia group is a juggernaut.

5. St. Michael’s at Los Alamos, 7 p.m. Friday: The Hilltoppers make an extremely rare appearance in our 5 Games to Watch segment, but they are off to an excellent start, and already were coming off a playoff appearance. The Horsemen also playing solid football so far, and this is a great test against a team two classes above them.
