Marcella S. Lockhart, 88, left this earth peacefully in the early morning hours of August 14, 2023.

Mom was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, the oldest of 6 kids. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1953. After high school she went to work for the District Court Probation office for 11 years. While in Albuquerque she met her sweetheart, got married and within two years moved to Los Alamos, NM. In 1966 mom and dad had a house built and adopted me. They moved to White Rock, NM where she began a new adventure . While being a stay at home mom, she enjoyed her church, sewing, knitting and other various activities around her little town. As I grew older she decided to go to work and accepted a job at the at Los Alamos National Laboratory where she worked for 12 years retiring in 1993.

Mom loved belonging to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she sang with her group, volunteered and made forever friends. She was a active Eucharist, Ministry, lector, scholar and volunteer at St. Joseph’s Church in White Rock, NM. On October 4, 2006 mom and dad were recognized for their 42 years of service at the IHM parish by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, NM by receiving the St, Francis of Assisi award. I remember her just glowing that night. She was also active at the White Rock Senior Center. She looked forward to and loved baking cakes and help throwing the seniors their monthly birthday parties.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Lockhart, her parents Julian and Maria Saavedra, sister Palmira (Mark) Sturino and brother Jr. Saavedra (Suzanne, also deceased).

She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Maggie) Garcia, son (in-law) but truly like her own son, Pete Garcia as well as two grandsons, Nate and Nick Garcia, brother Albert (Dolly) Saavedra, Alb., NM, brother Nestor Saavedra, Alb., NM and sister Ana (Jim) Maghielse of Colorado Springs, CO. Also several nieces and nephews who are scattered around the US.

We will miss her smile, thoughtfulness, and love as well as all the adventurous memories of her family and friends who she loved so dearly.

A very special heart felt thank you to Don Gerheart (Mr. G), Shirley, Lorraine and Cliff, and especially my husband, Pete, for all the loving care and special things you all did for mom, it meant so much to both of us! Maggie!

A rosary is planned for September 5, 2023 at 11:00am with a Mass following at 11:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, NM. A reception will follow at the IHM Parish Hall.
