What you need to know about New Mexico State: The Aggies are off to a solid start in Adams’ second season as coach, having won four straight after opening with close losses to Arizona and UTSA. It’s a physical, aggressive NMSU team that excels in transition and on the defensive end. The Aggies have limited opponents to 36.8% shooting and 53.7 points per game with only Arizona reaching the 60-point mark. NMSU is not particularly tall but rebounds well on the defensive end. Kaiser is the focal point of the Aggies’ offense and can score inside or from the perimeter. Kaiser, Jones and Harding have combined to hit 26 of NMSU’s 30 made 3-pointers and each is hitting 35% or better from long range. Kaiser averaged 14 points versus UNM last season.

What you need to know about New Mexico: The Lobos continue to be a streaky bunch even over the span of a single game. UNM’s defense has generally been effective, limiting foes to 39% shooting, but its base man-to-man set has been vulnerable at times, including in the first half of Tuesday’s 81-78 overtime win over Eastern Illinois. The Lobos turned the tide by switching to a zone and pressing on dead-ball situations. UNM’s offense also has been a hit-andmiss affair that frequently struggles with 3-point shooting (26.9%). Reus found the range (3-for-6) in the second half against EIU and the Lobos’ attacking offense instantly became more effective. UNM has four starters averaging double-figure points but has gotten little bench production.
