Eagles WR Brown out for wild-card game
Chargers, Titans, Falcons schedule interviews with coaching candidates
PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown will miss Monday night’s playoff game against Tampa Bay with a knee injury.
Brown was hurt in the first quarter of last week’s loss to the New York Giants after a short reception.
“It was going to be a stretch for A.J. to play,” coach Nick Sirianni said Saturday. “He did everything he possibly could to get himself ready. He fought like crazy to try and do everything he could do.”
Brown was not ruled out for the next round, should the Eagles advance.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts is scheduled to play after a light throwing week because of an injured middle finger on his right hand.
“Everyone’s going to be fighting through things,” Sirianni said. “He’s fighting through the finger injury. But he had a good practice (Friday).”
CHARGERS: Los Angeles is expected to meet with Jim Harbaugh this coming week as its search for a head coach continues, according to someone with knowledge of the situation but not authorized to speak publicly.
Harbaugh is widely considered to be a leading candidate for the Chargers, his potential return to the NFL perhaps increasing after he led Michigan to college football’s national championship Monday.
The Chargers are looking to replace Brandon Staley, who, along with general manager Tom Telesco, was fired Dec. 15.
The team has interviewed two internal candidates in Giff Smith, who finished the season as the interim head coach, and Kellen Moore, the Chargers’ offensive coordinator.
TITANS: Tennessee has interviewed Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce for its vacant head coaching job.
The Titans announced Saturday they completed their third interview to find a replacement for Mike Vrabel, who was dismissed Tuesday after consecutive losing seasons and just six wins in the last 24 games.
Pierce was named interim head coach for the Raiders after Josh McDaniels was fired on Oct. 31.
On Friday, the Titans starting the coaching search, interviewing Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan and Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
FALCONS: Atlanta conducted a virtual interview with Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, a former University of Georgia assistant, for its head coaching vacancy on Friday.
Macdonald is the first candidate to interview with the Falcons, who fired Arthur Smith on Sunday night after his third consecutive 7-10 season.
The 36-year-old Macdonald took over as Baltimore’s defensive coordinator in 2022 after serving as Michigan’s defensive coordinator in 2021. He spent seven seasons as an assistant with the Ravens before his one year with Michigan.
