The EV elite are putting thousands of Americans out of work with repeat layoffs

There are times when we all must wonder if Santa Fe is in a different time zone. For example: when it is 2:30 p.m. in Las Cruces, politicians in Santa Fe are still pretending it’s 2021. In the most glaring example, it’s clear the electric vehicle bubble has burst, except the news hasn’t reached Santa Fe.

That would be the only way to rationally explain the state Environmental Improvement Board’s recent decision to continue to force Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s electric vehicle mandate. Putting aside the fact the governor’s mandate disrupts the free market just so she can push her agenda, it also is completely devoid of the reality current taking place.

Last year, less than 8% of all vehicles sold were electric. Supporters hail this result as a threshold moment meant to usher in the future of their glorified golf carts. However, as the first quarter of 2024 came to a close, it looks like electric vehicles may be following the path of laser disks and New Coke.

In March alone, the CEO of Hertz was shown the door after taking a $245 million loss. Hertz learned the hard way Americans don’t even want to rent electric vehicles, much less own one.

Ford, the manufacturer of some of the most popular vehicles in the world, also announced they lost $5.5 billion on EVs in 2023 alone.

In fact, at about the same time Grisham’s Environmental Improvement Board was rubber-stamping her EV mandate, Ford announced they would delay EV production on certain electric vehicles because sales have slowed. You might think that is evidence enough, but it gets much worse.

General Motors is laying off employees because of the failure of electric vehicles. EV darling Rivian has gone through not one, but two rounds of layoffs.

Adding it all together, there were 19 layoff “events” starting from January 2023 through today. That means thousands of Americans are now unemployed because the road to the EV future is a dead end.

Keep in mind, these dismal results are taking place as Washington and Santa Fe throw billions at the industry. From manufacturing subsidies to tax credits for buyers, the government fingers are definitely on the scale in favor of EVs and yet the industry is still failing.

It all begs the question: If it takes billions of dollars to prop up an industry that only delivered less than 8% of sales, what would happen without all those tax dollars?

It’s clear Michelle Lujan Grisham and her handpicked Environmental Improvement Board know the answer, and that’s why they are working overtime to force EVs on the public. Car dealers, tribal leaders and working families are putting up the stop signs only to be ignored by the EV elite.

Santa Fe is definitely in a different time zone, one devoid of reality.
