Plein Air Soirée
Experience the sixth annual Olmsted Plein Air Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.
It’s time to celebrate beautiful weather and the sixth annual Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, where 30 juried master plein air painters have been invited to gather and produce work “in the open air.” There will also be highly anticipated events and festivities throughout the week, April 8 to 26, honoring the modern plein air movement.
For the first four days, artists will be scattered in the historic midtown Ansley Park neighborhood in Atlanta, where the public gets to observe firsthand the creative plein air process. Artists may also choose to work in other locations throughout the state. Whether they capture the urban feel of Atlanta or the allure of the countryside is all part of the excitement and artistic process.
A first viewing of all work will be presented during the ticketed Artists Welcome on April 21. This will be a keen opportunity to scout out favorite pieces for purchase, while also getting to know the artist. Viewers will be able to purchase the work throughout the week, and can collect paintings after judging at the Collectors and Artists Awards Soirée, Saturday, April 25.
There are other notable events to expect, such as the immensely popular
Petite Pop-Up Garden Stroll, that entails a secret location revealed to ticketholders the afternoon of the event, Thursday, April 23. Participants also get to enjoy the reveal of the petite plein air paintings.
The Paint Quick event on Sunday, April 26, from 9 to 11 a.m., is open to any artist, student or enthusiast. For a small fee, participants can compete by painting or drawing in plein air in McClatchey Park. Work is then promptly judged and awards are presented at 12:30 p.m. There also will be an exhibition and sale for the pieces.
As it is the educational mission of Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, there will be free artist demonstrations, workshops, exhibits and lectures at the Competition Gallery throughout the week. Everyone is encouraged to join in the fun, smell the paint in the air and simply enjoy the plein air process. All tickets and information can be found on the website.
