Get our top tips on shopping for vintage collectibles at the flea

market or your local antiques store this summer.

and there are lots of great collectibles out there, waiting for you to discover them. Here are the best insider tips of the season.

Take a look at the vintage collectibles that are trending these days.

• DECONSTRUCTED FURNITURE. This is furniture that looks partially torn apart but is actually finished. “They take a couch and it looks undone but it’s not,” says Rina Belanger, co-director of The Vintage Market in Michigan. “It’s reupholstered to look unfinished.” This type of furniture is considered custom upholstery, usually with neutral colors.

• SMALL CABINETS. We love the look of knickknacks displayed inside vintage display pieces. “Small cabinets are popular right now,” says Stacey Anderson, owner of Queen of Hearts Antiques & Interiors in Georgia. Look for vintage school cubbies, lockers and other small cabinets to use for display and storage.

• TABLETOP CLOCKS. You know the clocks that look like they’re on their last legs, with chippy paint or rusted tops, and yet a darling clock face? “We’re seeing antique table-side clocks trend a lot,” Rina says.

• PRIMITIVE AMERICANA. Think

Anything Laura Ingalls Wilder might have cherished is trending right now. “Primitive is really on trend,” says Angela Guzzardo, codirector of The Vintage Market in Michigan. “Especially vintage rugs with the Americana farmhouse décor.” Keep your eye out for old shutters and doors, vintage quilts and pocket watches.
