American Farmhouse Style

Master SUITE

-

Interior designer Mindy Laven created a cohesive look between the master

bedroom and bathroom with these core elements.

• STYLE STACKING. The first priority was to make both the bedroom and bathroom reflect the home’s overall style. “The tub and the surround were things I added to make it more custom and cohesive with the rest of the house,” Mindy says. “We actually built those wood end panels and put that cork top on the tub. It was just a plain, old, boring tub before that.” It really shows how small changes can transform an area. Both rooms turn basic necessities into functional décor statements.

• COLOR CODE. Color is the simplest way to connect the bedroom and bathroom. The neutral tones and dreamy pops of blue calm and refresh these two rooms. Remember to continue your home’s color palette in both rooms and you’re golden.

• TEXTURE MATTERS. Mindy added plush rugs to both the bedroom and bathroom. Not only are they visually pleasing, but they provide a comfy place for your feet to rest when getting out of bed or the tub. Mindy also played with modern-vintage designs, which are their own kind of texture. We did some custom drapes in a contemporary fabric [in the bedroom],” Mindy says. “And then we used that vintage stool made from reclaimed wood in the bathroom—I love that bench.”
