Plaster Flowers & Vase

-

Every tablescape begins with a centerpiece. A lush floral arrangement displayed in a unique vase is perfect for a memorable gathering. Delicate plaster flowers exude timeless charm and capture the intricate details of each bloom while preserving them for endless enjoyment. When combined with a simple vase, plaster flowers completely elevate the look and evoke a sense of elegance for your tablescape. These plaster flowers are so easy, you will want to make dozens!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• Faux flowers

• Plaster of Paris (4 lb.)

• Water

• 5-cup disposable container

• 2-gallon bucket, or larger

• Disposable fork

• Wire cutters or scissors

• Disposable gloves

• Wax paper

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

1. Cover working surface with wax paper. Place containers next to each other on the wax paper.

2. Cut the flowers with wire cutters or scissors leaving a few inches of the stem attached. For this application, flowers with stiff, open petals work best. Dense flowers such as rose buds are not suitable for plaster applications.

3. While wearing disposable gloves, combine the plaster of Paris with water according to the directions in a 2:1 ratio in the 5-cup disposable container. Mix thoroughly with a disposable fork until the plaster is the consistency of a smooth, thick liquid. The plaster will begin to set within 6 to 8 minutes so work in small batches. Note: 2 cups of plaster mixed with 1 cup of water will cover approximately 4 mediumsized flowers.

4. Holding the flower facedown by the stem, dip flower into the plaster submerging it completely up to the stem. Rotate the flower in the mixture to coat the petals and center of the flower.

5. Once fully coated, move the flower over to the center of the larger 2-gallon container and shake to remove excess plaster. Deep containers or buckets work best to contain the splatter when shaking off excess plaster. 6. Cut the excess stem at the base of the flower, and place upright on wax paper to dry for at least 24 hours.

7. For the plaster vase, hot glue the flowers onto a vase; then spray paint for a cohesive look. Add seasonal flowers to coordinate with your tablescape.
