Aspirational Accessorizing
This project illustrates the beauty of a well-accessorized home. Not only were substantial renovations undertaken but no detail went unattended. Carolyn carefully styled the home with art, vintage items and unique pieces. Here are her tips for accessorizing.
• Curate vintage finds. Sourcing unique vintage pieces adds character and a sense of history to the home. “These items for this project were carefully selected to blend with the overall design, providing a mix of old and new for a balanced aesthetic,” Carolyn says.
• Create a cohesive theme. To achieve a harmonious vibe, accessories were chosen with a theme in mind. Whether it’s a specific color palette, texture or style, Carolyn maintains consistency to ensure that the accessories complement each other and contribute to the desired atmosphere.
Layer for depth. Layering accessories involves arranging items in varying heights and sizes to create visual interest. This technique adds depth to the décor, preventing it from appearing flat and one-dimensional.
• Balance scale. “Consideration of scale is crucial,” Carolyn says. Mixing larger statement pieces with smaller ones helps strike a balance and ensures that no single accessory overwhelms the space, thus contributing to an overall sense of harmony.
• Add personal touches. Infusing personal touches, such as family heirlooms or items with sentimental value, adds warmth and authenticity. “These personalized accessories contribute to a lived-in feel, making the home more inviting and reflective of my client’s personalities,” Carolyn says.
