Examples of Hudson River School, impressionism, regionalism and modernism are among the American art at highlights coming to market during Shannon’s Fine Art Auctioneers’ American and European Fine Art Auction on April 26.The sale will get underway at 6 p.m. in the auction house’s Milford, Connecticut, showroom.

One of the standouts of the sale is Dale Nichols’ Winter on the Farm, a fresh to the market painting dated 1969. Shannon’s has proven its success with works by Nichols, as they are the current holders of the artist’s world auction record for his piece Mid-nation Winter, which sold in their last auction for $120,000. Winter on the Farm is indicative of the regionalist style that Nichols is known for and, like the record holder, is a narrative winter scene with riders being pulled by a horse on a sled alongside a red barn and white house.

Among the 19th-century works of art in the sale is Off Conanicut, Newport, an 1898 seascape by William Trost Richards that has a presale estimate of $50,000 to $75,000. Measuring 20 by 32 inches, the painting is filled with the elements that are hallmarks of Richards’ style, including a luminist sky and translucent waves.

A work on paper by Hans Hofmann from 1932 is another notable item.
