THE MONKEY IN THE KEYS

Re: John Brownlee’s “A Conch’s Life,” Winter 2017: My grandparents Irma and Carroll Kennedy owned Breezy Palms, the Florida Keys resort with the monkey — which was my mother’s — that Brownlee writes about. They have

all passed away, but I remember them telling my brother and me stories about it. They only started chaining the monkey to a tree when a customer complained about it stealing her lipstick and bothering her in the pool. This was in the ’50s, when my mother was a teenager.
