DIT students are also encouraged to work on cutting-edge VR and custom hardware projects, with the school providing 5x HTC Vive and 3x Oculus Rift setups for multiple student teams. DIT’s Music and Sound Design facilities are equipped with industry-standard hardware and software for music and audio production. DIT’s two sound labs feature 27” Apple iMac digital audio workstations equipped with Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Sibelius, Pure Data, commercial sample libraries, and more. Workstations are also equipped with Windows PCs for cross-platform software development, allowing sound design students to collaborate seamlessly with interdisciplinary game development teams in the Game Software Design & Production department. The labs also function as screening halls for lectures, demonstrations, and collaboration with animation and game development teams. DIT’s recording studio features two live rooms and a control room equipped with Avid C24 digital console, Pro Tools HDX, SSD Mac Pro, 5.1 surround monitoring and mixing with Focal Solo Series speakers, and Hear Technologies personal monitor mixer system. The Mathews Sound Lab also features two smaller recording studios for voice recording and solo instrument tracking. Studio and labs are equipped with acoustic and electronic pianos and drums, as well as mobile recording workstations, studio microphones and preamps, and field recording equipment. DIT’s acoustically-isolated practice rooms include Wenger’s Virtual Acoustic Environments system for simulation of performance space acoustics.
