Animal ID No.: A5479748 Animal name: Piper
Piper is a five-year-old, altered female Pitbull that came to the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray, on May 16. Piper was friendly and allowed being examined and handled. She showed she walks well on a leash and is easy to handle. She greeted the runner at her kennel gate. The runner opened her gate and she was easy to leash and easy to walk to the catch pen. She gave good greetings to the other dogs as they came to greet her through the play yard fence. When she was allowed to enter, she stopped to greet a male Pitbull. She tolerated him lingering in her face, licking her muzzle. As the other dogs approached to greet her, she appeared overwhelmed and began to lick her lips, her body became tense and she gave a light growl while backing away from them, warning them for space. As the other dogs respected her warning and backed away, she began to relax. She appeared more comfortable engaging with individual dogs than a group of dogs. She played a brief game of chase with a male Pitbull, as he ran up to her and play bowed enticing her to play with him. Piper is behaviorally OK for public adoption and recommended to a home with middle school-aged children as well as to a home with calm dogs.
