MELICK, Carolyn Edwards

Carolyn Edwards Melick was born Oct. 7, 1941 in Littlerock, Ark. and passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 26 in Lancaster, Calif. after a 13-year battle with lung cancer.

Carolyn was educated at Hendrix College and the University of Arkansas where she earned a master’s degree in education. She spent her life as a dedicated, loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r and profession­al educator. Carolyn spent 34 years teaching third grade at Sunnydale Elementary School in the Lancaster School District.

On Aug. 6, 1966 she married Kenneth Melick and went on to have two daughters. She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth, daughter Kristen Melick-Williamson and her daughters Jenna and Julia Williamson and Katie Melick and her husband Jens Nielsen and their children Maja and William Nielsen.

Carolyn lived her life in service to the many children she taught during her 34-year career in public education. She was a passionate teacher who always put her students first. Carolyn believed in instilling a lifelong passion for learning and literacy to the students of not only her classroom, but all students at Sunnydale. She always taught that reading was crucial for a successful education.

Carolyn truly lived life to the fullest through teaching, reading, traveling and spending time with her grandchild­ren.

Family, friends and others whose lives Carolyn touched are invited to the Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary, 808 East Lancaster Blvd., in Lancaster. Viewing will be held on July 11 from 4-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating new children's books or funds to the Sunnydale Elementary School library at 1233 West Avenue J-8 in Lancaster.
