-

Toasty is a one-year-old, white, altered, male Pitbull/Labrador Retriever mix that was brought to the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray. He was scared and unsure of where he was but warmed up easily. Toasty allowed being medically checked by the clinic staff. He displayed a gentle and dainty play style and was sociable and non-reactive around other dogs in the play yard. Toasty was laying down when the handler arrived. When the handler knelt down and verbally coaxed him, he stood up and approached the gate. The handler opened the gate and placed the leash over his head. Once leashed, Toasty exited the kennel with a cautious demeanor. He walked behind the handler with no pull on the leash; the handler verbally reassured him the entire way to the catch pen, as he walked with a stop-and-go pace. When Toasty arrived, he approached the fence and exchanged a brief greeting with a male Shepherd. He had concerned eyes, a neutral body and a neutral tail. The handler called Toasty over and easily placed the collar on him. When he entered the yard, he was approached by multiple dogs. Toasty tolerated the group sniffing his body and simultaneously sniffed back. After a couple moments, He broke away and explored the yard. He approached a handler soliciting affection; the handler knelt down and gently pet the back of his head. Toasty leaned into the handler as he was enjoying the affection. He then broke away and explored the yard. He remained social and tolerant and displayed a gentle/dainty play style. Toasty is recommended to a home with middle school-aged children. Large dogs are OK. To meet him, visit the center during its public hours of 2 to 5 p.m., daily and 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays.
