-

Tawny is a three-year-old, female, brown Pitbull that came to the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray. She was easy to handle and friendly, and she allowed medical staff to examine her without any problem. Tawny is friendly and loves to get attention. She greeted the runner at the kennel gate with soft eyes, a relaxed body and a neutral tail wag. The handler opened the gate and easily placed a leash around her neck. Once leashed, Tawny willingly exited the kennel and walked ahead of the handler with no pull on the leash. When she arrived at the catch pen, she slowly approached the fence and exchanged a brief greeting with a male Husky and a female Shepherd. Tawny had concerned eyes, raised hackles and a low tail wag. The handler knelt down and called her over; she approached with a loose body, soft eyes and a neutral tail wag. As the runner was placing a collar around Tawny, she excitedly toe-tapped and licked his hand. When she entered the yard, she stood at the entrance with a low body, ears back and a tucked tail. A male Shepherd approached Tawny and sniffed her body; as he lingered around her, she slowly sniffed his body. After the greetings, she explored the yard. As Tawny acclimated to the yard, she approached others and gave play bows, but when they would attempt to engage, she would quickly walk away. She also approached a handler wanting affection. Tawny remained social and tolerant for the duration of her yard time. She requires confidence and further socialization. No play style was observed. Tawny is recommend to a home with middle school-aged children as well as calm dogs. To meet her, visit the center during its public hours of 2 to 5 p.m., daily and 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays.
