Michael G. Leggett, affectiona­tely known as “Opa,” passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023 in Palmdale, California surrounded by family.

Michael was born on November 5, 1939 in Cumberland, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and faithfully served his country for 23 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran. After he retired from the Air Force in 1981 (Colorado Springs, Colorado), he began his second at Northrop Grumman moving to Lancaster, California in 1983. He retired from his position there in 1999.

Michael was a lifetime member of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Colorado Springs, as well as the Elks Lodge 1625 in Lancaster, CA. He was also a lifetime member of The Retired Enlisted Associatio­n and a member of the VFW Post 3000, in Quartz Hill, CA.

Michael was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfathe­r, great grandfathe­r, and a loyal friend. He is survived by Sieglinde, his wife of 65 years. He is also survived by his. three children: Debbi Leggett Kanatzar (Steve), Michael A. Leggett, and Christina Leggett Beardsley (Ryan). He is also survived by his grandchild­ren, Jacquelynn Kanatzar Ripke (Tommy), Stephen Kanatzar (Valerie), Cameron Kanatzar, Ryan C. Beardsley (Cassidy), Rachel Beardsley, and Colton Beardsley. Michael was blessed with 7 great grandchild­ren: John Henry, Harrington, Juliette, and Hudson Ripke and Daniel, Hailey, and Stevie Kanatzar. Additional­ly, he is survived by his sisters, Shirley Leggett Walker (Paul) and Leona Leggett Madden (Bill) and several nieces and nephews.

Michael leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and commitment to family. He was a man of honor, integrity, and a great patriot of the United States of America. He will be greatly missed.

Services will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bakersfiel­d National Cemetery in Arvin, CA. HIs celebratio­n of Life will be held on Monday, November 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Elks Lodge.
