LANCASTER — The Paraclete softball team defeated Burroughs (Ridgecrest) 11-3 in a non-league game on Tuesday at Paraclete High.

“I was pleased with the way they played today,” Paraclete coach Margaret Neill said. “Burroughs is much improved from last year, so they gave us a test and we responded well.”

The Spirits were coming off four wins in the Bakersfield Drillers Tournament last weekend. Paraclete won the tournament title with a perfect game in a 9-0 semifinal win against Garces Memorial and followed it with another near-perfect game and 11-3 win over Independence in the championship game.

Sydney Scripter pitched a perfect game through six innings against Independence, before giving up three runs in the ninth inning. She allowed three hits with six strikeouts.

“We played great the first six innings — great defensive plays, we hit the ball really well,” Neill said. “We kind of fell apart in the seventh.”

Neill applauded a defensive play by Carmen Sanchez at second base.

“Carmen had a great diving catch at second base,” Neill said. “If SportsCenter was there she would have been in the Top 10.”

Sydney Scripter finished 5-for-5 with five RBIs in the championship game, while Shaylee Scripter was 3-for-4 and Addi Gorman had two hits.

Paraclete plays at Oak Hills (7-2) in a non-league game on Thursday.
