Women’s Football

• Tryouts: The AV Brickhouse Bricks women’s profession­al football team is looking for players to join the reigning Women’s Tackle Football League Western Conference champions. No experience necessary.

The Bricks practice on Sundays from 10 a.m. to Noon and Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. at American Heroes Park, 701 E. Kettering (on the Jackman side) in Lancaster.

Ages 14 and up. Bring water.

The Bricks begin their season on April 30 at the Seattle Spartans.

Pickleball

• Weekly classes: Come join the fun and learn to play pickleball.

Play on the Pickleball Courts at Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park on Saturday 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday and Tuesday 5-7:30 p.m. Equipment and instructio­n provided by Joe Dagata, call 661943-3357 for more informatio­n.

Advanced players are welcome to join Team AV Pickleball. For more informatio­n call/text Dana Young at 661-209-0451. Team AV practices regularly in Palmdale and competes out of the area winning Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Running

• Devil’s Chair Mountain Trail Fun Run: Join the High Desert Runners for a run from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Devil’s Punchbowl County Park, 28000 Devils Punchbowl Rd., Pearblosso­m.

Run on Pacific Crest Trail out and back to the top of Grass Mountain. Any distance you like. It is about 5 miles round trip up to the top.

After the run, stick around to enjoy the company of fellow runners and don’t forget to bring some snacks to share.

• New WAVE Race: The AV Fair Wave Race is now the Cherry Pickin’ 5K Wave Race on Saturday, June 1 at Leona Valley Elementary School, 9063 W Leona Ave., Leona Valley.

Race-day registrati­on and check-in starts at 7 a.m. and the 5K Wave Race begins at 8 a.m.

Awards for the top 50 finishers, regardless of age/gender division, will be given out. All entries receive a T-shirt, while supplies last.

The 5K Wave Race is a handicappe­d race based on age-graded tables. Your start time will depend on your age and gender.

The course is up and down — uphill first half, super fun downhill coming back.

Pre-race registrati­on and check-in will be from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at Vince’s Pasta and Pizza, 2833 W. Ave. L, Lancaster.

This event is a fundraiser for the West Antelope Valley Education Foundation (WAVE). They provide funding for extracurri­cular opportunit­ies such as field trips, clubs, sports, etc., for the students of the Westside Union School District.
