Highland shuts out Eastside in makeup league game

LANCASTER — The Highland baseball team defeated Eastside 13-0 in a five-inning Golden League game at Eastside High School on Monday.

The game was postponed from Friday due to rain.

The Bulldogs had three pitchers combined on the shutout and limiting the Lions to one hit.

Highland senior Caesar Casas threw two shutout innings to get the win, striking out four and did not allow a hit, senior Jacob Badillo threw two shutout innings, struck out two and gave up one hit and senior Will Paxton threw one inning, striking out one and walking one.

Casas also went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and one run, Paxton was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, three runs scored and two RBIs, senior Caleb Montemayor was 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI, senior Christian Arreola finished 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, Badillo was 1-for-3 with an RBI, freshman Nick Gonzalez was 1-for-1, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs and sophomore Cole Studt finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Eastside junior Marvin Valle was 1-for-2.

Highland improves to 14-5 overall and 6-1 in league and will host Antelope Valley on Wednesday and Quartz Hill on Thursday.

Quartz Hill 3, Narbonne 2

HARBOR CITY — The Quartz Hill baseball team defeated Narbonne 3-2 in an El Camino Tournament game on Saturday at Narbonne High School.

The Royals rode to victory on strong pitching performanc­es by Ismael Quintero and Beau Parisi.

Quintero struck out six in six innings, giving up four hits, and Parisi struck out two in the seventh to shut the door.

Quartz Hill (15-3, 5-1) broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the sixth inning and took advantage of three Narbonne errors.

Quartz Hill played an error-free game and both teams finished with four hits.

Quartz Hill resumes Golden League play Wednesday at Littlerock and will play a makeup game at Highland on Thursday.

Boys Volleyball Desert Christian

CHATSWORTH — The Desert Christian boys volleyball team advanced to the quarterfin­als of the bronze bracket in the Chatsworth Tournament on Saturday, but lost to Grant 25-17.

The Knights (12-5, 6-0 in Heritage League) went 3-0 to finish first in pool play, beating North Hollywood 25-23, 25-16; Canoga Park 25-16, 25-17; and Pacifica 25-19, 25-22.

Desert Christian junior outside hitter Colt Schmidt finished with 53 kills and four blocks, sophomore middle Kennth Castillo had three kills and six blocks, senior outside hitter Zachary Bell finished with 26 kills, senior middle Austen Collins added six kills and five blocks, senior setter Josiah Concepcion had 75 assists and sophomore libero Isaac Muralles finished with seven aces on 28 serves.

Desert Christian will host The Palmdale Aerospace Academy for a league match today.
