One of the defining names of country music, Willie Nelson has now released 70 studio albums – including First Rose of Spring, which espouses the reflective sound with which the 87-year-old, Texas-born artist’s fans will be familiar.

FIVE FACTS:

1. The album was originally set for release on April 24 until it was postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

2. Nelson co-wrote two original songs, “Blue Star” and “Love Just Laughed”, for this album with its producer Buddy Cannon.

3. The album’s title track and first single is about a husband and wife and “a love affair from the beginning to the end,” Nelson told Apple Music.

4. He added: “It’s one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time.”

5. “There’s a lot of good songs that we still have that will be on the next album or the next one,” Nelson has said about his plans for the future.
