State airports receive grants
$5.2 million to help improve runways, lighting, drainage
Nearly two dozen Arkansas airports received a total of more than $5.2 million in federal grants for repairs, improvements and new construction, the state’s congressional delegation has announced.
Airports receiving grants, the amount of the grants and the reason for the grants:
Brinkley — Frank Federer Memorial Airport, $77,355 to design the rehabilitation of the apron.
Camden — Harrell Field, $33,800 to rehabilitate the runway and taxiway lighting systems to ensure safe airfield operations in low visibility.
Carlisle — Carlisle Municipal Airport, $157,500 to rehabilitate the runway.
Clarksville — Clarksville Municipal Airport, $545,835 to construct a taxiway, eliminating the need for aircraft to back-taxi on the runway.
Crossett — Z.M. “Jack” Stell Field, $90,000 to install perimeter fencing to prevent unauthorized individuals and vehicles from entering.
De Queen — J. Lynn Helms Sevier County Airport, $250,000 to construct an apron to provide aircraft parking.
Dumas — Billy Free Municipal Airport, $179,640 to rehabilitate the runway.
Hope — Hope Municipal Airport, $387,000 to rehabilitate the runway.
Manila — Manila Municipal Airport, $58,363 to rehabilitate the runway.
Marshall — Searcy County Airport, $355,419 to rehabilitate runway lighting and install taxiway lighting to ensure safe airfield operations during low visibility.
McGehee — McGehee Municipal Airport, $150,320 to expand the apron to bring it up to Federal Aviation Administration design standards.
Melbourne — Melbourne Municipal/John E. Miller Field Airport, $150,000 to install a vertical/visual guidance system to make the airport more accessible to pilots. Funding will also be used to make drainage improvements to adequately handle stormwater runoff.
Mountain Home — Baxter County Airport, $495,000 to rehabilitate the apron. The grant also will be used to install a vertical/visual guidance system to make the airport more accessible.
Ozark — Ozark-Franklin County Airport, $139,950 to rehabilitate the runway.
Piggott — Piggott Municipal Airport, $281,770 to rehabilitate and expand the apron.
Pine Bluff — Grider Field, $254,034 to rehabilitate the taxiway.
Rogers — Rogers Municipal-Carter Field, $141,300 to rehabilitate the taxiway.
Russellville — Russellville Regional Airport, $99,900 to rehabilitate the runway.
Springdale — Springdale Municipal Airport, $153,000 to install a vertical/visual guidance system and to install an automatic weather observing system to improve safety and efficiency. The grant also will be used to install perimeter fencing to prevent unauthorized persons and vehicles from entering.
Stuttgart — Stuttgart Municipal Airport, $171,000 to rehabilitate the runway and taxiway. Funding will also be used to conduct an airport drainage study.
Walnut Ridge — Walnut Ridge Regional Airport, $529,317 to rehabilitate the taxiway.
Warren — Warren Municipal Airport, $545,835 to construct a taxiway, which will eliminate the need for aircraft to back-taxi on the runway.
