UCA Distinguished Lecture to feature NFL analyst
CONWAY — UCA Public Appearances will continue its Distinguished Lecture Series with an appearance by Herman Edwards, NFL analyst and former coach, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Dona ld W. Reynolds Performance Hall.
Jerr y Biebesheimer, director of Public Appearances, said he is excited to have a person of Edwards’ stature for the lecture series.
“He has used his fame in athletics to try to create a better world,” Biebesheimer said. “He consistently viewed sports not as an end, but as a means, to accomplish other things as well.”
Edwards, a former NFL head coach, now acts as a studio analyst for ESPN and is arguably one of the best-known voices in today’s sports world. He is one of only five coaches in NFL history to take two different teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets, to the playoffs in his first season coaching them. Edwards played professional football from 1977-86, spending his first nine seasons with Philadelphia.
Edwards is passionate about more than sports. He actively supports the Diabetes Research Institute, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. In 1985, he founded the Herm Edwards Youth Foundation, an organization that, among other charitable endeavors, raises funds for the Boys and Girls Club in Seaside, Calif. He was named Big Brother of the Year by the Catholic Big Brothers for Boys and Girls in New York.
