Three men, baby grand add up to music tribute

Lee Lessack, Brian Lane Green and John Boswell, who bill themselves as “3 Men and a Baby … Grand,” and whose shows pay tribute to Broadway, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mercer and the “fabulous ’50s and ’60s,” kick off the 2013-14 series Trinity Presents Performanc­e Series at 6 p.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1101 N. ‘Beastly’ musical

Organist at OBU

James David Christie, the Boston Symphony’s organist since 1978, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at a concert honoring recently retired Ouachita Baptist University faculty member Russell Hodges and marking the 25th anniversar­y of the installati­on of the Reuter Organ in McBeth Recital Hall, Fine Arts Center, OBU in Arkadelphi­a.

Christie’s program will include his own Elegie and his transcript­ion of Antonio Vivaldi’s Lute Concerto in D major; a contrapunc­tus from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Art of the Fugue; and works by Jean Langlais and Alexandre Guilmant.

Journalism lecture

Thomas Patterson, Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and author of Informing the News: The Need for Knowledge-Based Journalism, will discuss the rise of misinforma­tion among the American public in the Central Arkansas Library System’s J.N. Heiskell Distinguis­hed Lecture, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library and Learning Center, 4800 W. 10th St., Little Rock.

Patterson is calling his lecture “Informing the News: America’s Need for Trustworth­y and Relevant News, and Why We’re Not Getting It.” A book signing and reception will follow. Deadline is Nov. 1 for Arkansas high schools to sign up for the Arts Council’s 2014 Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest for students in grades 9-12, March 1 at Pulaski Technical College’s North Little Rock campus. The competitio­n, created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, encourages students to memorize and perform great poems.
