Look beyond blame

-

Everyone right now is all abuzz about the government shutdown. There is a blame game going on with multitudes of finger-pointing and judgments made about just whose fault it is. And boy, are we vexed.

What if the government never changes? Compromises will be reached, but frankly I foresee minor changes only and the same ol’ going on as a new day begins and these compromises are reached.

What if the question we ask is not “why doesn’t the government act,” but “what can I do today to make a difference?”

What if today is the only day in your life or the life of another who you have a chance encounter with, and you are the catalyst that keeps their world going for another day?

Forget the world out there and focus on the world that your life is. Focus on being the you that you and only you can be and the gift that you have within to give. Your life has been shaped by experiences, and this wisdom is the gift that someone is desperately needing. Be alert to the faces around you. Be the gift and give spontaneously a smile, an encouraging word and yes, maybe some money to pay a bill that has to be paid—be the miracle they are desperately seeking.

Our government is no longer the answer to our happiness and joy—no, you and only you are in control of that aspect of your life. Your attitude about what is, and what you believe is, becomes reality in your life—and only you can change that.

What if today is a great day and you are completely missing out on it because you are looking in the wrong direction? Wake up, get up and be the gift. BETH ANA THOMAS Clarksville
