HARPER’S PURE COUNTRY TAXIDERMY

Quality craftsmanship turns every piece into art

-

For Rodney Harper of Damascus, professionalism, attention to detail and quality craftsmanship are virtues that have kept his business reputable for the past 24 years. Harper, owner of Harper’s Pure Country Taxidermy, is a state- and nationally certified taxidermist who puts his expertise to work on every piece, resulting in a beautiful, lasting product.

Harper said his love for the art of taxidermy is what made him enter the profession. He enjoys preserving memories for new and experienced hunters and fishers — from a child’s first deer to a record-breaking fish. He uses the latest reference photos and exact measurements to make sure the mount is just right.

“There is a story behind every mount, and it’s my job to re-create that story,” Harper said.

The skilled artist has won multiple awards, including State Champion for 2013 in Master Division Fish Taxidermy at the Arkansas Taxidermist Association convention in February in Greenbrier. He is one of 17 certified taxidermists in the state, and one of only 102 in the nation certified in fish taxidermy.

He is a member of state taxidermy associations in Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana, as well as the National Taxidermy Association.

In addition to being a nationally certified judge, he is a seminarian for taxidermy classes for others interested in the business.

The full-time taxidermy business also offers custom-made fish baits by his 15-year-old son, Jared, and various outdoor decorations.

Harper prides himself on his quick turnaround on projects and invites customers to view his work at his business or on his Facebook page. 22 S. Broadway St. • Damascus 501-425-6876
