FAULKNER COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM

Providing more than just books to public

-

The Faulkner County Library System offers much more than just books to the community.

“We are a community center of learning and the best place to go for Southern culture,” said Nancy Allen, adult-services and reference librarian.

The Faulkner County Library System, headquartered in Conway, has five branches — Greenbrier, Mayflower, Mount Vernon, Twin Groves and Vilonia, as well as two libraries in Van Buren County: Clinton and Damascus. The library offers a wide selection of children’s, young-adult and adult books to suit many tastes, as well as a variety of programs for all ages.

The library’s ongoing programs include tai chi and yoga classes, the Pickin’ Porch jam session for local musicians, genealogy-research assistance, computer classes and, on Saturdays, Spanish story time.

The library also offers free e-book check out as well as the first seed library in Arkansas where heirloom, non-genetically modified seeds are available to the public.

Special events include monthly concerts for all musical tastes, evenings with authors, health classes and many other initiatives. For children and teens, the library has special summer programs and provides ongoing book clubs and anime clubs, as well as game nights and movie nights throughout the year.

Along with serving community members who come to the library at their leisure, Allen serves those without that luxury.

“I take a bookmobile to about nine retirement homes in Conway,” Allen said.

The library will also host Comic Conway Nov. 9 and 10.

Everything the library provides is free and open to the public.
