SILAS R. BONNER SR., 87, of Little Rock went to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 3, 2014. He retired after 45 years in the trucking industry. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church for 60 years where he served as a deacon. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 69 years, Mary Catherine Johnston Bonner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas Grant Bonner and Ophelia Birdwell Bonner.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Silas R. Bonner Jr. (Karen) and Mike Bonner, both of the Little Rock area; four grandchild­ren; seven great-grandchild­ren; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at RollerFune­ral Home Chapel, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Ark. 72209, (501) 455-5800. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service.

––––– ––––– ROBERT HENRY BURCH left this world on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 to be with his bride of 60 years, Barbara Sue Burch, in Heaven. Robert was born on Sept. 14, 1928, to William Robert Burch and Gussie Mae Dyson.

He is survived by his three daughters, Sheila Allison (Granger), Karen Gentry (Steve) and Susan Cross (Donald); eight grandchild­ren, Shane Allison, Jeff Allison Sr., April Ammons, Cathie Tillery, Ashley Lawson, Christophe­r Cross, Justin Cross and Sarah Cross; 18 great- grandchild­ren; two sisters, Alma Dennis of Flint, Mich., and Madge Carter of Little Rock, Ark.; and a very special sister-in-law, Versie Burch; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Robert was a longtime member of the National Asbestos Workers Union local 10 and served as president for many years. He was the oldest living member prior to his death of the Redfield Masonic Lodge having served 59 years. He was petitioned in 1955 and raised to Master in 1958.

He was an active member of his community and served as the director of the Woodson Cemetery, and was a member of the Woodson Baptist Church. He will be sorely missed.

––––– ––––– MIKE HUCKABAY SR. died on Oct. 1, 2014. He was born on June 14, 1940, in Houma, La., to Dorrothie and James Preston Huckabay. He spent part of his childhood in Venezuela with his family before moving to Clarksvill­e, Ark., where he graduated from Clarksvill­e High School. While in Clarksvill­e, he had a horse named Lucky whom he loved. Mike graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1962 with a degree in Political Science. In 1965, he earned his law degree from Vanderbilt Law School. He began his law career in Little Rock at the law firm Pope, Pratt and Shamberger, after which he practiced with Tom Gentry. He was then recruited by his beloved senior partner, Sam Laser, in the early 1970s to the firm which soon became Laser, Sharp, Haley, Young and Huckabay. In 1984, Mike founded the law firm Huckabay, Munson, Tilley and Rowlett. In 2011, he and his son began the Huckabay Law Firm, where he practiced with Kathryn Knisley and Jay Sayes. Mike was a trial lawyer of great skill and was well respected as an advocate by both the bench and bar throughout Arkansas. As recognitio­n of his skills as a trial lawyer, Mike was a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the Internatio­nal Society of Barristers, a diplomat of the American Board of Trial Advocates, as well as a member of the Arkansas and Pulaski County Bar Associatio­ns.

Mike faced his diagnosis of cancer with courage and grace. He fought his illness with great dignity, strength, strong faith and even humor.

Mike is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his children D. Michael Huckabay Jr. and Layne Keenan. He is also survived by his grandchild­ren Samantha and Natalie Huckabay, and Huck and Sam Keenan; and his stepchildr­en Katharine Allen Adams, Justin Couch and his wife, Katie, Leland Couch and his wife, Vanessa, and Patrick Couch. Mike is also survived by four stepgrandc­hildren. Other survivors are his sister Patsy Bradley of Russellvil­le, his brother Danny Huckabay of Dover and their families.

Mike was a natural trial lawyer, having tried over 450 jury trials. He praised those who made and seized opportunit­y for themselves not only in the practice of law but in life. Mike was a devoutly faithful man who loved animals. Mike and his family are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from his family, friends, co-workers and fellow members of the bar. Particular thanks are given to the superb physicians, nurses and staff of UAMS and Arkansas Hospice.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at 3 p.m. in Second Presbyteri­an Church. ––––– ––––– OLIVE LORD McMILLAN of Little Rock, Ark., widow of Archie Y. McMillan, died Sept. 25, 2014, in Little Rock. She was born in Chicago, Ill., on April 5, 1921, to Joseph H. Lord Jr. and Willie Mae Byrd Lord and grew up in Sarasota, Fla.

She earned a bachelor’s of music education degree, with minor in Spanish, from Stetson University, DeLand, Fla. She retired from Arkansas Social Services. She was a member of Little Rock Calvary Baptist Church, National Societies Colonial Dames 17th Century (Henri de Tonti Chapter) and Daughters of the American Revolution (Gilbert Marshall Chapter).

Survivors are daughter, Dianne L. Smith of Tulsa, Okla.; son, Brian L. McMillan and his wife, Marianne, of Little Rock; son, David B. McMillan and his wife, Nancy; grandson, Brett and his wife, Lillie; grandson, Nicholas and great-granddaugh­ter, Brooklyn, all of Fort Smith, Ark.

Our Mother wrote this obituary herself in 2001, and her family updated it. Her family also added the following: Our Mother also taught Spanish at Hall High School. It would have been difficult for our father to carry on his music ministry at Little Rock Second Baptist Church without her assisting him by leading the Children’s Choirs. She was a member of the Adult Choir and of the Cantorias. She played the flute and taught piano lessons. Daughter-in-law Nancy shared this memory, “One of the darling things that I remember is her saying, ‘Ain’t nature grand?’ Olive was delighted by travel and in awe of the natural beauty of the earth God created (for her).” Daughter Dianne remembers her saying things were “more better,” a phrase she learned from her stepfather.

Her favorite hymn was “Amazing Grace,” which she sang almost every day until about a month before she died at Presbyteri­an Village in Little Rock, where she had lived since Dec. 18, 2009.

He loved hunting, fishing, being at church and spending time with his family and friends who will miss him greatly.

Ann was born and educated in Carthage (Dallas County, Ark.) and an active member of First Baptist Church of Maumelle. She was employed for over 41 years for Little Rock Municipal Water Arkansas Water.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Alberta Johnson; and two sisters, Virginia Barker and Mae Eason.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra West; son-in-law, Brian West; and two beloved granddaugh­ters, Averie and Addison West, all of Maumelle; one sister, Mildred Morrow, of Donaldson; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.

––––– ––––– ALICE AMMA SPANN, born Dec. 10, 1926, in Clarendon, Ark., daughter of Admiral Dewey Deaton and Jewell Leon Deaton, went to meet her late husband, L.D., in heaven on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014.

Mrs. Spann was a loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Franklin Deaton; her sister, Elizabeth Deaton Ward; and her beloved L.D., her husband of sixty-four years. She is survived by one son, David R. (Randy) Spann, and his wife, Janice, of Conway; and two daughters, Annette Dumas Leonard, and her husband, Don, of Little Rock, and Kathy Blalack Snipes and her husband, Gene, of Fort Mill, S.C.; 13 grandchild­ren: Stephanie Spann Harris, Aaron Spann, David Spann, Barry Craiglow, Wesley Craiglow, Lance Dumas, Shannon Dumas Frazier, Scott Dumas, Geremiah Leonard, Hannah Blalack, Julie Blalack, Gregg Snipes and Angie Snipes Fulmer; twenty-five great-grandchild­ren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Alice and L.D. were members of Tyler Street Baptist Church for many years. Last year, she became a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. For the past nine years she has been a resident of Presbyteri­an Village, where she received exceptiona­l love and care. ––––– ––––– DORIS NADINE TILLMAN, 87, of Jacksonvil­le, passed away on Oct. 2, 2014. She was born on Feb. 19, 1927, to the late Curtis and Eva Goldman in Pine Bluff, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delthea Tillman.

––––– ––––– EDWARD M. WRIGHT, 71, of Sherwood, passed away on Oct. 2, 2014, in Little Rock. He was born Dec. 4, 1942, to the late Wilson E. and Billie Wright in Little Rock, Ark.

“Mr. Ed,” known to his friends, grew up between Garland, Texas, and North Little Rock, Ark.

He retired in 1998 after 31 years with American Airlines. Ed had a passion for motorcycle­s, camping and the gift of gab. In later years, he enjoyed his men’s group at church, volunteeri­ng at the Friendly Chapel, having coffee and donuts after daily Mass.

Those left to cherish Ed’s memory are his wife of 49 years, Judy (Ferguson) Wright; son, Ken (Candi), of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter, Holly, of North Little Rock, Ark.; and three grandchild­ren, Taylor, Coleman and Carson Wright; step-grandsons, Britton and Kellon Hibbard, of Memphis, Tenn., and Alan Wright (Kathleen), of Garland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thanks to all the Doctors and Nurses at UAMS for all the dedication and compassion they showed to the family and Ed.

––––– ––––– BLYTHEVILL­E — Burl Edward “Ed” Smith, 61, of Blythevill­e, Ark. went to heaven Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at his home. Ed was born in Searcy, Ark., to Alvin and Bea Smith. Growing up in Butlervill­e, he learned to farm, fly airplanes and play football. He took his first solo flight at age 12, taking off in his backyard, from what is now known as Alvin Smith Airport. He was the center for the Cabot Panthers 1969-1971. Ed relocated to Blythevill­e, Ark., with his wife and three children in 1989.

He was an educated man who always encouraged his family to obtain their education as well. Ed graduated from Cabot High School in 1971. He continued his education at Southern Arkansas University and graduated with an Industrial Engineerin­g degree.

Ed was a hardworkin­g man. Places of employment include A.O. Smith, Arkansas Department of Health and Arkansas Department of Labor. He ended in career as health and safety manager at Cyro in Osceola, Ark.

Ed was a big man with a big heart. He loved his family. His wife, children and grandchild­ren were his whole world. He loved Cardinals baseball, was a competitiv­e B-B-Q’er and three-time chili cook-off winner.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Coleman Smith and Rachael Beatrice Smith. He is survived by his wife, Debby L. Smith of Blythevill­e; his three children, Cindy Smith of St. Louis, Mo., Katie Courtright and husband, Dustin, of Maumelle, and Benjamin Smith and wife, Lindi, of Dyersburg, Tenn.; three grandchild­ren, Victoria and Lee Smith of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Peyton Courtright of Maumelle; his sister, Janet Watkins and husband, Bill of Maumelle; four nephews, Buddy Watkins of Maumelle, Alex Hawk of Little Rock, Sam Hawk of Little Rock, and Stewart Miller of Sherwood as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ed should be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father, hard-working, good generous man.

––––– ––––– BRYANT — Margie Marie Jarvis, 88, of Bryant went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at her home. She was born April 20, 1926, in Austin, Ark., to the late Samuel W. and Nancy W. Robbins Ridgeway. Mrs. Jarvis had worked at Kellwood as a seamstress for 20 years and loved reading, crocheting and doing things outdoors. She was a loving and caring person and her belief in the Lord and raising her seven children were most important in her life.

Besides her parents, who she lost at an early childhood age, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 ½ years, Frank E. Jarvis; nine brothers and five sisters. Margie Marie was the youngest, but outlived all of her siblings.

Survivors include three sons, Frank F. Jarvis of Prairie Grove, Ark., Sam Jarvis (Connie) of Little Rock and Steve Jarvis (Sue) of Hill City, S.D.; one stepson, James F. Jarvis of Walla Walla, Wash.; four daughters, Alice Elaine (Bill) Rice of Belton, Mo., Shirley M. (Ken) McEuen of Benton, Sandra L. (Kenneth) Kempson of Shirley, Ark. and Joyce (Cesar) Rivera of Huffman, Texas; 15 grandchild­ren; 30 great-grandchild­ren and one great-great grandchild.

––––– ––––– GILLETT — Doris L. Dupuy Schwartz, 73, of Gillett, passed away on Oct. 2, 2014. She was born on Oct. 4, 1940 to Alcide and Bernice Dupuy. She attended and graduated from Gillett High School. She moved to Georgia in 1958 and was employed as executive secretary to the president of a privately owned family business. She was married in January 1960 to Ray Schwartz. They lived on St. Simons Island for seven years before relocating to Fort Lauderdale Fla., where they lived for many years.

She attended AIB classes while employed in the banking industry as a human resources officer and classes at Barry College in Miami. After 20 years in banking, she left to work at Franklin Templeton Investment­s in the institutio­nal marketing department. She retired on Jan. 3, 2003.

She was a member of Christ Church United Methodist in Fort Lauderdale.

Her parents and husband, Ray Schwartz, brothers, James and Ray Dupuy, predecease­d her.

Her survivors are nephews, Walter Dupuy and Bill Ogle and their families, nieces Peggy James and Tandi Link and their families.

Memorial service will be held at a later date for both Ray and Doris Schwartz.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He built a small shrimp boat and learned the art of shrimping which he thoroughly enjoyed. In 1986, he got his pilot’s license and bought a small airplane, flying around the Southeast to attend fly-ins and air shows.

––––– ––––– STUTTGART — Dorothy Loveless Harlan of Stuttgart, Arkansas, went to be with Our Lord on Oct. 2, 2014. Dorothy was born in Stuttgart to Nora and William Edward Loveless on Feb. 14, 1932. She was a proud lifelong resident of Stuttgart and a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, where for many years she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was a past member of the church women’s circles and the Junior Women’s and Grand Prairie Garden clubs. Dorothy was also a former Miss Stuttgart. She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayettevil­le, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.

Following college, Dorothy returned to Stuttgart to teach. Her first teaching post was at the Goldman Sunshine School near Stuttgart, teaching grades one through six in the one-room schoolhous­e. Soon after, she married Van D. Harlan Jr. of Humphrey, Ark., and became a homemaker. Their marriage of 57 years was blessed with three children: Van Harlan III (Maria) of Jacksonvil­le, Ark.; John Harlan of Stuttgart; and Beverly Bacon (John) of Gallatin, Tenn.

Dorothy was a beautiful, gentle and loving person. Children and animals adored and trusted her at first sight. Her quick wit and charming intelligen­ce made her a standout with friends and at social gatherings. Dorothy was a voracious reader, passionate gardener and bird lover, especially with her little hummingbir­d friends in her backyard.

Dorothy was predecease­d by her parents and six of her seven brothers: Al, Wilmer, Walter, Harry, Howard and Larry Loveless. She is survived by her brother Dr. Donald Loveless (Peggy) of Tulsa, Okla.; three sisters-in-law, Lucy Loveless and Susan Loveless of Memphis, Tenn., and Dee Loveless of Wilmington, Del.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, October 6. Funeral services will be held in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 7, at 11 a.m.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Davis and Emzie Belle Turney Davis of Perryville, Ark; four brothers, Andrew, Lawrence, Richard and Troy Davis; three sisters, Martha Wise, Floy Parsons and Vernice Hughes; her first husband, Chester Tallent of Hollis; her second husband, Clarence Gross of Traskwood; her third husband, McKelvy Rogers of Traskwood; her son, Charles Tallent and her daughter, Louise Bata.

Her survivors include her sister, Mary Lois Farmer of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Clinton Tallent (Bonnie) of Benton; daughter, Erma Matuszyk of Little Rock; nine grandchild­ren, 26 great-grandchild­ren, eight great-great-grandchild­ren and a host of nieces and nephews.

God was always the center of her life, even from a young age growing up on a farm in Hollis. She was a talented seamstress and incredibly gifted baker and always enjoyed finding ways to share those skills with her friends and family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and loved being surrounded by her grandchild­ren.

––––– ––––– WARREN — Ret. Police Chief Bobby E. Outlaw, age 78, of Warren, Ark. died Saturday, Oct. 4 at his home. He was born Dec. 28, 1935 in Possum Valley, Ark., a son of the late Albert Wesley Outlaw and Irma Glennon Outlaw. He was a retired staff sergeant with the United States Army, a Vietnam War Veteran with 22 years of service and received the Bronze Star. He was a retired police officer with the Warren Police Department, serving 18 years and the last eight years he served and retired as Chief of Police. He enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and especially spending time with his family and grandkids. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church, where he served as a deacon, and on Sept. 29, 1972, he married Glenda Goodman Outlaw spanning a marriage of 42 years. Also preceding him in death was a brother Leslie Outlaw, sister Letha Mae Saffold and Sara Dean Coddington.

Surviving other than his wife are three sons, Dan Outlaw and spouse Alicia, Rye, Ark., Paul E. Outlaw and spouse Nikki, Warren, and David Outlaw of Montana. A stepson, John Clancy, Hermitage, Ark.
