GOLF Fischer leads Arkansas Open Zack Fischer of Texarkana, Texas, shot an opening-round 6-under 65 Saturday to lead the Arkansas Open at Burns Park Golf Course in North Little Rock.

Fischer, the 2011 champion of the event, leads by six strokes over Philip Holley and Joey Nichols heading into today’s final round.

Beau Glover, Stafford Gray and Steven Lecuyer shot even-par rounds of 71 and are tied for fourth.

Matt Watts and Matthew Jennings are tied for seventh at 72, while Trey Schaap sits alone in ninth after a 2-over 73.

Arkansas women tied for seventh Arkansas shot a first-round 290 on Saturday and is tied for seventh at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla. Arkansas is 13 shots behind leader Mississipp­i State. Sophomore Summar Roachell leads the Razorbacks with an even-par 70 and is tied for 11th. Junior Regina Plasencia is tied for 22nd with a 1-over 71. Gabriela Lopez is 35th with a 73.

SOCCER Ozarks beats LeTourneau Freshman forward Bryce Young scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 46th minute Saturday to lift University of the Ozarks to a 1-0 nonconfere­nce victory over LeTourneau in Clarksvill­e. Ozarks improved to 4-4-2 overall in the American Southwest Conference.

VOLLEYBALL UCA stays undefeated in conference Central Arkansas defeated Southeaste­rn Louisiana 3-1 (25-16 25-7, 21-25, 25-23) Saturday in Hammond, La.

Evie Singleton had 25 kills and 10 digs for the Sugar Bears (10-7, 5-0 Southland Conference). Heather Schnars had 20 kills and six digs. Kristine Hjembo had 27 assists, and Shelbee Berringer had 27 digs.

Arkansas-Fort Smith wins again Arkansas-Fort Smith defeated Texas A&M-Internatio­nal 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-18) Saturday at the Stubblefie­ld Center in Fort Smith.

Jessica Anderson led Arkansas-Fort Smith (14-3, 8-0 Heartland Conference) with 16 kills. Katarina Krstonosic and Michell Walker had 14 and 10 kills, respective­ly, and Bailey Katzfey had 38 assists.

UAM defeats Southweste­rn Oklahoma Arkansas-Monticello defeated Southweste­rn Oklahoma State 3-2 (18-25, 32-30, 19-25, 25-16, 15-7) Saturday in Weatherfor­d, Okla.

Arkansas-Monticello (8-7, 3-4 Great American Conference) was led by Kyra Austin, who had 11 kills and six blocks. Bainca Brown had nine kills. Tasha Evans had seven blocks. Jessica Cuba had 31 digs and Lani Kaiwi had 11.

Southweste­rn Oklahoma (5-9, 3-4) was led by Brandy Mader, who finished with 15 kills.

The Cotton Blossoms followed up the victory by losing 3-1 (13-25, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25) to Cameron later Saturday night in Lawton, Okla. Sydni Schulz led the Cotton Blossoms with 16 kills and 11 digs.

Harding falls to Southeaste­rn Oklahoma Harding lost 3-1 (27-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22) to Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State on Saturday in Durant, Okla.

Liz Savage led the Lady Bisons (9-5, 4-2 GAC) with 12 kills and three blocks. Erica Helm had 12 kills and nine digs.

Southeaste­rn Oklahoma (9-8, 3-2 GAC) was led by Megan Kunkel, who had 17 kills and 11 digs.
