Job seekers have opportunity to visit with prospective employers at Tuesday’s job fair

Whether currently unemployed or simply looking for a new career path, job seekers will want to make plans to attend this year’s Fall Job Fair. The job fair, which is free to the public, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock. The 2014 Fall Job Fair is presented by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and the Central Arkansas Human Resources Association (CAHRA).

About 40 employers, staffing agencies and educators will be represented at the fair. Job seekers will have the opportunity to apply for positions in all kinds of career fields, ranging from entry-level jobs to professional and management positions.

“This fall’s fair includes two panel discussions, one offering tips from human-resource insiders and one designed to help job seekers use online application tools and hone their interview skills,” said Tabitha Cunningham, manager of promotions, events and sponsorships for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

“All of the panelists are experienced human-resource representatives and have a vast knowledge of what employers are looking for in a candidate,” she said, adding that a seminar on preparing for a job interview is also planned.

Scheduling for mock job interviews will begin at 10:30; practice interviews will be held every 15 minutes throughout the event.

Also at 10:30 a.m., the first panel discussion, HR Insights From HR Insiders, will offer helpful tips from human-resource professionals in a variety of career fields, including banking, medical care and more.

At 12:30 p.m., local human-resource experts will present Using Online Application Tools. This live demonstration will show job seekers how to conduct an online job search and then effectively complete an online application, ensuring that their résumés will receive proper consideration by a company.

Members of CAHRA will be available at the association’s booth throughout the day, providing assistance for job seekers who want to create a more powerful, professional-résumé.

“Bring at least 50 copies of your résumé. This is very important,” Cunningham said. “Also, dress professionally and be well groomed, and be prepared to participate in the interview process.”

Job seekers should keep in mind that the job fair is a fast-paced environment, and although they should be prepared, they might not be interviewed during the fair.

The following tips can help job seekers make the most of the opportunities provided by this year’s Fall Job Fair.
