‘Keep the music playing’

Conway Symphony Orchestra Guild Designer House to open Oct. 17

- BY CAROL ROLF Contributing Writer

In an effort to “keep the music playing,” the Conway Symphony Orchestra Guild will present the 2014 Designer House on Oct. 17-25 at 1120 Reynolds Ave. in The Village at Hendrix. The home will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17-18 and 20-25, and from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 19. General-admission tickets are $25 each and grant unlimited access to the house. Tickets will be available at the door or in advance online at www.conwaysymphony. org or at The Village at Hendrix office, 1040 Reynolds Ave., and 501 Life Magazine, 701 Chestnut St. Both The Village at Hendrix and 501 Life Magazine are sponsors of this year’s event.

“The Designer House is our biggest fundraiser for the year, maybe even for two years,” said Mary Mosley, president of the CSO Guild. “We have it every other year.

“Every bit of the money we raise goes to support the Conway Symphony Orchestra and its musical, educational and outreach programs. We want to be sure future generations will have the opportunity to hear, and enjoy, the music. We want to ‘keep the music playing’ — that’s the guild’s motto.”

Guild members will also staff a gift shop

— Guild Gifts — at the house.

CSO Guild members Julie Adkisson and Lindsay Henderson are co-chairwomen of the Designer House steering committee. Henderson is also a member of the CSO board of directors.

Built by Luke Porter Inc. of Conway for The Village, the house is described as a “craftsman bungalow.” The two-story, 1,718-square-foot house has been sold to Len and Marilyn Rishkofski. It has three bedrooms, one of which can be used as a study, and a flex room, as well as 2 1/2 baths, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a laundry room and a patio space.

Adkisson said that in addition to purchasing general-admission tickets to view the Designer House, another way patrons can support the orchestra is to purchase a Grand Tour Ticket for $100.

“However, there is only a limited number of these tickets left,” Adkisson said. “This gets you to the Frauenthal Overture Party on Oct. 14, which is sponsored by H3 Home + Décor. It will be held at the Frauenthal Estate, 631 Western Ave., and ties together the first designer house held in Conway to the present [designer house]. That first designer house was at the Frauenthal Estate and was done for another organization.”

Adkisson said the Grand Tour Ticket also allows the ticket holder to attend two classes — one culinary class and one design class — chosen from a series of classes that will be held at The Village office. This is the first time classes, sponsored by A Southern Tradition, will be offered in conjunction with the Designer House.

The culinary classes will include Wine Tasting with a crush wine bar at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17; Cooking for Kids with chef Josh Mills of Williams Sonoma at 2 p.m. Oct. 18; Thanksgiving Meats and Sides with chef Anthony Michael of the Cross Eyed Pig BBQ (time to be announced) on Oct. 20; and Baking for the Holidays with pastry chef Zara Abbasi at 2 p.m. Oct. 22.

Design classes will include Refresh, Remix and Restyle with Chris H. Olson of Botanica Gardens at 10 a.m. Oct. 18; Designing Stunning Floral with Jessica Zimmerman of A Southern Tradition at 10 a.m. Oct. 20; Holiday Decorating with Angela Davis of A to Z Custom Creations at 2 p.m. Oct. 21; and The Art of Chalk Paint by Mari Cousins Eilbott of Park Hill Home at 6 p.m. Oct. 23.

Those who purchase the Grand Tour Ticket will also receive a “Designer House Run of the Show” ticket that admits the patron to the house an unlimited number of times, along with an invitation for two to The Finale, a party set for 6:30-10 p.m. Oct. 24 and sponsored by Southwestern Energy.

“The only way to get to the Overture party and the classes is through the Grand Tour Ticket,” Adkisson said. “Please remember, there is only a very limited number of these tickets left.”

The Grand Tour Tickets may be purchased online at www.conwaysymphony.org.

Individual tickets to The Finale party are $50 each and are available online and at The Village at Hendrix office and 501 Life Magazine. This event will include food and drinks, tours of the Designer House, a chance to meet the designers and special music provided by the Conway Symphony Orchestra.

Henderson said several designers are decorating various areas of the home. The designers and the spaces they will decorate include the following:

• Jayson Cain of Little Rock, owner of Jayson Cain Interiors/The Stone House, will decorate the master bedroom.

Mosley said the Conway Symphony Orchestra Guild has other fundraisers as well, including All That Jazz, which has been held in alternating years with the Designer House, as well as the sale of a cookbook.

Upcoming events supported by the guild include the annual Nutcracker Sweets, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 before the CSO holiday concert, Tinsel and Tutus, and the CSO Children’s Concert, Figaro for Families, set for 2 p.m. March 14. Both concerts will be presented at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

Mosley said the guild is always looking for new members. Membership fees are $30. For more information, visit www.conwaysymphonyorchestra.org.
