GCT works OT, tops Valley View

JONESBORO — Blakely Adams scored the first field goal in the second overtime to give Greene County Tech the lead for good as the Lady Eagles defeated Valley View 69-66 on Friday night in a key 5A-East Conference game.

Blaire Metheny led Greene County Tech with a gamehigh 25 points, while Lara White added 16 and Adams had 13. The Lady Eagles made nine three-pointers.

Ashleigh Guthrie led Valley View with 24 points despite not playing in the second quarter because of three early fouls. Harleigh Jones added 20 points for the Lady Blazers.

Valley View (10-7, 3-2) took a 5-3 lead before Greene County Tech went on an 8-2 run to take an 11-7 lead with 2:14 on the clock after a field goal by Lara White. Greene County Tech closed out the first quarter with a 5-0 run that featured three free throws from Kassie Tyner as it took a 19-6 lead.
