Bombay Harambee has big weekend planned

“Flying for the Night,” a benefit for Dianne Archer Read of Nightflyin­g magazine, will be held at Another Round Pub, beginning at 6 p.m. today. Read has been recuperati­ng following the amputation of her left foot.

Area musicians have rallied to help her and husband, publisher Peter Read. Participat­ing musicians include Greasy Gravy, Deltatones, Hi Balls, Kyndryd Spyryts, Stella Luss, Joe Pitts Band, Mike Mayberry, Weakness for Blondes, John Calvin Brewer Band and Tyrannosau­rus Chicken. That Arkansas Weather will perform at 10 p.m. Saturday at South on Main. The band combines jazz, soul, funk, rhythm and blues and hip-hop influences. Admission is $10.

The Lyon College Pipe Band will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ron Robinson Theater for a Celtic cultural celebratio­n to mark St. Patrick’s Day. Based at Lyon College in Batesville, the band performs traditiona­l Scottish bagpipe music and also features guitars, accordions, uilleann pipes, singers and Scottish and Irish dancers.

Admission is free. The concert is a part of the Arkansas Sounds series.

Stellar Way will perform a jazz/funk show at 9:30 p.m. today at the White Water Tavern.

The central Arkansas band consists of Tyndall Jackson, Robert Frisbee Coleman, Cliff “Drummerboy” Aaron and Bruce Hurley Johnson. Jackson and Johnson are graduates of the Berklee College of Music and Coleman is program director for Ernie Biggs of Little Rock. Admission is $5. Bombay Harambee will host a show to debut the band’s new seven-inch (aka 45) record at 10 p.m. Friday, and the show will open with sets by Faux Ferocious, from Nashville, Tenn., and Ghost Bones, a Hot Springs band that won this year’s Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase on Saturday.
