FRIDAY BAAC Exhibition Entry Deadline BATESVILLE — The deadline is Friday to enter the Batesville Area Arts Council’s third annual National Juried Exhibition, which is open to all artists 18 and older working in 2-D media. Accepted works will be exhibited at the BAAC Gallery on Main from April 28 through June 13. Fire Department Meeting ROMANCE — The Floyd/Romance Fire Department will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the department’s new fire station. There will be a hamburger and hot-dog potluck. Attendees are asked to bring sides and desserts. The meeting agenda will include discussing upcoming plans and voting for new board members.
FRIDAY MARCH 21 Southwestern Regional Rendezvous LESLIE — The 31st annual Southwestern Regional Rendezvous will be held Friday through March 21. The rendezvous is a pre-1840s American fur-trade-era rendezvous re-enactment. There may be up to 300 camps at the rendezvous, located on the mountain above Leslie. The event will include rifle/ pistol and smooth-bore shooting, tomahawk and knife throwing, archery, a cooking contest, fire starting, kids’ activities and more. A School Day will be held Friday for private-school, public-school and home-schooled students. The event will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday and March 20 and 21. Introduction to Computers MELBOURNE — Ozarka College in Mountain View will host an Introduction to Computers course through Continuing Education from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays through March 27. The four-week course, taught by Frances Bullard, will cover basic computer concepts, Microsoft Windows, Internet search and navigation, email basics and sending attachments. The tuition is $25 per student or $20 for ages 60 and over. Seating is limited, and registration is required. Celtic Cultural Celebration
LITTLE ROCK — The Lyon College Pipe Band will return to the CALS Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., for a concert at 7 p.m. This Celtic Cultural Celebration will feature Irish and Scottish music and dance by Lyon’s band and Parkstone. Dutch Oven Workshop: St. Patrick’s Day
POWHATAN — A session titled Dutch Oven Workshop: St. Patrick’s Day will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Powhatan Historic State Park. Some of the early settlers in Powhatan were of Irish ancestry and brought with them the favorite dishes of their homeland. Workshop participants will learn to cook several authentic Irish recipes in a Dutch oven, sample the food they have prepared and receive a recipe booklet. The registration fee is $15. Second Saturday Bingo

St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast
HORSESHOE BEND — Father Conan Mawhorr Knights of Columbus Council 10493 invites everyone to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the lower level of St. Mary of the Mount Church Hall, First and Church streets. The “eat ’till you’re full!” menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage and drinks. Proceeds from the breakfast will support the Arkansas Special Olympics and the Pennies From Heaven Project. Boating Education Class NEWPORT — Arkansas State University-Newport will host an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Boating Education course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 127 of Walton Hall. There is no fee, but registration is required by calling (870) 512-7861 or emailing Jennifer Ballard at Jennifer_ballard@asun.edu. Boating Education manuals will be provided, but students will need to bring a pen or pencil. There will be a one-hour break for lunch. Students younger than 18 will need a parent’s or guardian’s signature on the AGFC permission slip prior to attending class. www.agfc.com. Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1986, and of legal age to operate a motorboat or sailboat must have successfully completed an approved AGFC Boating Education course.
Fish Fry
AUSTIN — A fish fry will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the 16th Section Community Center. The meal will include fried fish, shrimp, chicken, fries, coleslaw, baked beans, okra, onion rings, hush puppies, beverages and desserts. The all-you-can-eat dinner costs $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 6-12. Children younger than 6 may eat free. All proceeds will go to the nonprofit 16th Section Community Center.
Basic Orienteering Class
POWHATAN — A basic orienteering class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lake Charles State Park. The cost of the class is $8 with a limit of 10 per class. Participants will learn how to use a map and compass through hands-on training and activities. No experience is necessary. There will be a beginner course with teams at the end of the workshop. Veterans Day of Recognition
SEARCY — A special fundraiser to help local veterans will be held at 9 a.m. at the Searcy Events Center. The mayor will sign a proclamation declaring Saturday as Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Day of Recognition. This family event will offer live music, vendors and food. The public is welcome. There will also be a poker run with prizes. MONDAY ASUN Spring Flex Online Courses
NEWPORT — Registration remains open for Spring Flex online courses at Arkansas State University-Newport, and classes will begin Monday. Designed for students who may have missed spring enrollment or dropped a course, or those who want an accelerated pathway to graduation, the Spring Flex courses, which run through May 12, are similar in structure and time commitment to ASUN’s summer courses. ASUN’s online course offerings include Freshman English 2, Biological Science, History of Arkansas, General Chemistry, Concepts of Fitness, Introduction to Philosophy, College Algebra and Introduction to Geography.
