MARY JANE SEE ADAMSON, age 78, died November 2, 2015, following a long journey with multiple myeloma. She was born in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of Jack F. See, Sr., & Esther Kirby See. Not long after her birth, the family moved to Memphis, Tenn. and then to Marianna, Ark. where she spent most of her childhood and teenage years. She was a member of the “starting 6” on the Marianna Porcupines girls basketball team, was homecoming queen for the 1953 football homecoming game, and was the valedictorian of her senior class. She graduated with an English degree from the University of Arkansas, was a member of Chi Omega sorority, and was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa national honor society following her junior year. Following graduation she taught public school in the Memphis, Tenn., and Little Rock, Ark. school systems.

She married in 1959, and lived most of the rest of her life in Little Rock. In addition to teaching in the public school system, she was a member and taught Sunday School at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, and later joined Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where she was on the Television Ministry ( secretary) and a member of the Circle of Hope and Christ Care Ministries. She served as President of the Hall High School PTA, was a board member at the Florence Crittenden Home and the Little Rock Racquet Club, was a volunteer at the University of Arkansas Medical Center, and worked at New Traditions, a women’s clothing establishment.

In the Fall of 1970, she learned she had monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance, which is the precursor to multiple myeloma. There was no treatment for MGUS, only the knowledge that at some unpredictable time MGUS would progress into a more devastating disease. Knowledge of her diagnosis was followed by a brief period of fear & concern, dominated by questions of when she would develop full- blown myeloma, but then her buoyant, confident, and positive outlook resumed control, and allowed her to live fearlessly for 38 years before her MGUS progressed to myeloma. On learning she had high, high- risk MM, she did not falter in any way from the positive outlook that she had evidenced throughout her life. And her positive attitude persisted to an even greater level despite the difficulties from multiple therapeutic regimens, even though she never achieved remission from her disease.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. James S. Adamson Jr., and her three children, in whom she engendered strength of character, love of education, desire to achieve, and respect for one’s fellow person, while they returned to her unrestricted love, joy, support, comfort, and reason for living: Leslie Claire Sogandares ( Frank) of Reston, Va.; James S. Adamson III, of Little Rock; and Jane Paige Westbrook ( Phil) of Birmingham, Ala. She is also survived by three grandchildren whom she loved unequivocally, and whom she hoped so much to see reach adulthood: James McAlister Sogandares and Jane Paige Sogandares of Reston, and Riley Elizabeth Westbrook, of Birmingham. She is also survived by her devoted brother & sister- inlaw, Jack F. See Jr., and Judy Park See, of Little Rock, and their family; and Dr. Adamson’s sister, Jo Claire Pulliam and husband Jim Pulliam of Heber Springs, Ark.

Jane was a bright, thoughtful, intuitive person, who almost always put her mind in gear before opening her mouth except at Razorback athletic events. But her most beautiful traits were her positive mindset, and her genuine love of people; these two qualities were noted by almost all whom she encountered, particularly during the last 3 years. She developed, and maintained until the end, the friendships she had with people from her time in Marianna, her Chi Omega “sisters”; her Racquet Club tennis group; her New Traditions “girls”; the women of her Pulaski Heights Methodist Church Christ Care Group; wives & mates of her husband’s colleagues in the military, at UAMS, at Baptist Medical Center, at Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, and members of a travel group she met through the American College of Physicians; and several special, special others with whom she shared joyful dinners and discussions, Razorback games, adventurous trips, and sunsets on Lake Ouachita. So many of these friends provided unfaltering emotional support during these last three years.

The family would like to thank the nurses, APNs and staff at UAMS Infusion 4, those on the 7th & 4th floors of the hospital, and those on 8th floor of the Winthrop Rockefeller Cancer Institute, who were so kind and considerate during her many treatment visits. A special acknowledgement of thanks to Nadine Baxter, APN, for her special attention and help in times of urgency; Drs. Mary Burgess & Juan Carlos Rico for their expertise in infectious disease and their compassionate attention; Dr. Bart Barlogie for his diligent attempts to find a therapy to combat her disease; Dr. Joe Beck for giving us guidance when it was sorely needed; and Dr. Gareth Morgan, who had the unenviable task of developing a treatment approach late in her disease when so many other regimens had failed to induce a remission.

In lieu of flowers, Jane asked that memorials be made to the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church Television Ministry, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, Ark., 72205, or to UAMS Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, 4301 W. Markham, Little Rock, Ark. 72205.

Funeral will be Friday, November 6, at 11 a.m ., at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, under the direction of Rev. Jeff Hampton, with burial service to follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Little Rock.

The family will receive friends at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham, on Thursday, November 5, from 4-6 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Rue bel Funeral Home,www. rue bel funeralhome. com.

ALMA — Billy Edward Blasingame ( Bill) of Alma, Arkansas died Tuesday, November 3, 2015. He was born March 18, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ora Willie Blasingame, and in- laws Tony and Mardell Christello.

He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1961. After attending Ouachita Baptist College, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he earned a Masters of Accountancy in 1967. After graduation, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corp serving at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D. C. and Medical Supply Officer for the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1970 having attained the rank of Captain. With CPA and CFE certifications under his belt, he went to work for the State of Arkansas Division of Legislative Audit in 1972. Bill ended his career as the Supervisor of Auditors for nine western Arkansas counties and retired from the state in 2008, after 36 years.

Bill was first diagnosed with non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1997, and subsequently with three other cancers. He still continued to work full time, while never saying no to volunteer opportunities. Every organization needs a detail obsessed treasurer, so Bill offered his 36 years of accounting skills to countless organizations: Relay for Life, Alma Boys and Girls Club, Ducks Unlimited, Alma United Methodist Church and Alma Rotary Club. In the midst of all of this, he and Rosemary traveled

extensively: to every National Park imaginable, Alaska, Hawaii, and to grandchildren Sam’s and Addie’s baseball, soccer, and softball games, dance recitals, birthday parties, holiday events, and cheered on the Razorback basketball team from their season tickets ( including the obligatory game recap at Braum’s with in- laws Herschel and Mardell McClurkin.) He was often called “Mr. Bill” or “Uncle Bill” by family and friends.

He was always eager to make a trip to Home Depot or Lowe’s to get his “fix” on the latest home, lawn and garden gadget ( not that it was ever needed or even purchased) and also frequented the River Valley’s local banks and hardware stores to take advantage of the free popcorn, coffee and sodas. He was known at the Crawford County Courthouse as the person who “dropped by” the offices that had goodies to munch on.

He was an active member in the Alma United Methodist Church, the Alma Rotary Club, the Ducks Unlimited Chapter of Alma, and the Arkansas Society of CPAs.

Memorial service will be 2 p. m. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Ocker Chapel of Alma with interment in Alma City Cemetery with military honors. The family will visit with friends from 5 until 8 p. m. Thursday evening, November 5, 2015 at Ocker Chapel of Alma, 917 Hwy. 64 East, Alma.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Christello Blasingame of Alma, daughter Angie Spencer and husband Steve of Little Rock; son Larry Blasingame and wife Jessica of Alma; daughter Francie Blasingame Frank and husband Dustin of The Colony, Texas; two sisters, Pat Green of Springdale, Ark., and Linda Newton of North Little Rock, Ark.; and grandchildren, Samuel Christello Spencer and Adell Elizabeth Spencer of Little Rock, who affectionately called him ‘ Gagok’.

Honorary Pallbearers include Matt Jones, Ed Thicksten, Sean Brister, Rick Clark, Jeremy Simon, Dennis Gilstrap, and Darrel Wheeler. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alma Boys and Girls Club ( P. O. Box 1689, Alma, Ark. 72921) or the Alma United Methodist Church ( 416 Short St., Alma, Ark. 72921).

––––– – –––– CABOT — Sydney Lynn Shumate of Cabot, age 16, met her Lord and Savior on October 31, 2015. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to father, Spencer Shumate, and parents, Chrissy and Nick Dougherty. Sydney bounced her way into this world with a heart of love and an infectious smile on February 14, 1999. She was our sweetheart! From a young age, she had a tender spirit, always thinking of others before herself. Sydney’s sassy force of nature gave her the strength and the poise to share God’s love with those around her. She was always so comfortable in her own skin, never meeting a stranger – young or old. She loved to talk, she loved to laugh, and she loved to share. Sydney had an old soul – she loved hard, she worked hard, and she embraced life to its fullest.

Like a portrait of her life, Sydney danced cheerfully from class to class, sharing a kind word to encourage, giving random hugs to inspire confidence, listening patiently to offer support. Down the halls and through the classrooms, Sydney’s joyful laughter could be heard, eliciting smiles from among her peers and teachers. Sydney was a great friend to many, and the impact she made upon others will continue to influence.

Sydney had an adventurous love of life, participating in many adventures in the great outdoors with family and friends. She was a beloved student, a junior at Cabot High School. She was a cheerleader for the Cabot Panthers and had participated in competitive cheer. She worked at Cabot Gymnastics. Sydney was the Student Director for the theater department and loved all the people associated with it. She was involved in many extra- curricular activities, one of her favorites being the Crown Club, for she loved interacting and serving others.

Sydney loved her family endlessly. She adored her little brother, Dylan and had just shared that she was very proud of the young man that he had become and how handsome he was. She doted on her little sister, Skyleigh, for she was her little princess.

Sydney was a member of New Life Church in Cabot where she was deeply involved in the youth program. Philippians 1: 21 defines both her passion for the Lord and her eternal hope: “For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better.”

Sydney is survived by her mother and father, Chrissy and Nick Dougherty of Cabot; father, Spencer Shumate of Denver; brother, Dylan Shumate and sister, Skyleigh Dougherty of Cabot; grandparents, Buck and Sherry Metoyer of Memphis, Dan and Linda Shumate, Cathy Dougherty, and Mike Stevens all of Cabot; Uncles, Scott Shumate ( Viri) of Houston and Stuart Shumate of Cabot; Aunt, Mindy West ( Heath) of Cabot; cousins, Lexi West, Hudson West, and Gracee West all of Cabot. Preceded in death by her uncle, Tony Sumler; grandparent, Butch Dougherty; great grandparents, Ted Lobley, Lynda Chinn, and Sadie Shumate.

Sydney’s beautiful smile will carry forward if you use your time to volunteer to worthy causes, such as the Open Arms Shelter; moreover, pause daily and reach out to those who are hurting or in need – even if it’s just a simple Hello, a warm embrace, or a “Sydney Smile.”

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p. m. on Thursday at New Life Church in Cabot. Visitation will be held at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 p. m. to 8 p. m. ––––– – –––– EAST END — Eva Eloise McGinley Davis, 70, of East End passed away from this life into her eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 2, 2015, surrounded by her family that she dearly loved so much.

Eloise was born November 16, 1944 to the late Dan and Eva McGinley. Besides her parents, Eloise was preceded into heaven by the father of her children, Michael Forte, a nephew, Heath McGinley; great- nephew, Eli McGinley.

Eloise is survived by her husband, Johnny; one son, Ben Forte ( Julie); two daughters, Lisa Forte ( Wayne), and Michelle Metzger ( Roger) all of Sheridan; grandchildren, Dalton Forte, Zack Reynolds, and Shelby Metzger, all of Sheridan; three brothers, Danny McGinley ( Brenda), Clinton McGinley ( Gina), Dale McGinley ( Sherre), all of East End; nephews, Jake ( Hallie) McGinley, Brad ( Serena) McGinley, Jesse ( Jodie) McGinley; nieces, Sara ( Brent) King, Leslie ( Kevin) Smith, Jami ( Zack) Eaves; stepdaughters, Debbie Stewart, Patricia ( Brian) Rinker; step- son, Johnny ( Angie ) Davis; step- grandchildren, Kenny, Angela, Brighten, and Hayden.

Eloise worked many years as LPN for Dr. Clyde Paulk. She went on to teach nursing at Ouachita Vo- Tech School in Malvern, then to continue her career at the Arkansas School for the Deaf, where she worked in the infirmary. This quickly became her favorite job, as she spent her days caring for the students. She became fluent in sign language, and loved to share it at every opportunity.

Eloise’s legacy is her family she leaves behind. Born into a family with three brothers, she was simply known as “sister.” This simple word was such a term of endearment and pride to her. There was nothing she loved more than she loved her brothers. When she was diagnosed with cancer, her three brothers, three children, and husband went to appointments to discuss her treatment. In this very crowded, small room, she sat with a smile on her face because her “family” was there. She always said they are my “support team”. Sometimes God doesn’t stop the storm — He strengthens the Saints. It was not God’s will to cure Eloise of the storm of cancer, but for three years she fought with the determination and grace of a Saint. She was a charter member of Springlake Church of the Nazarene in East End, where she attended until her health prevented her from doing so.

Pallbearers will be John Thurston, Brad Long, Steve Wilson, Jake McGinley, Brad McGinley, and Jesse McGinley.

Memorials may made to the Arkansas Chapter of the American Cancer Society or Springlake Church of the Nazarene Memorial Fund, 21607 North Springlake Road, Hensley, Ark 72065.
