CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Chamber Singers will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

The concert, free and open to the public, will highlight the Christmas spirit by featuring a variety of carols.

“People should come hear this concert if they would like to enjoy a beautiful start to their holiday season,” said John Erwin, director of choral activities and conductor of the UCA Chamber Singers, a select group of students chosen from the UCA Concert Choir.

The concert will feature “Gabriel’s Message,” a Basque carol arranged by Sir David Willcocks; “The Angel Gabriel,” an ancient English carol arranged by Martin Shaw; “Sweet Was the Song,” an English carol arranged by Rene Clausen; “Awake Shepherds Awake,” by Lee Dengler with a text by Arkansan J. Paul Williams; “The Blessed Son of God,” by Ralph Vaughn Williams; “Hodie”; “Deck the Hall in 7/8,” arranged by James McKelvy; and “Angeli, Archangeli,” a Renaissance angel song by Andrea Gabrieli.

“The theme is ‘Angel Songs of Peace,’ as many of the selections are a reference to the angels singing,” Erwin said. “My Chamber Singers are angels on Earth, and peace is the hope that this season elicits.”

The UCA Chamber Singers will also perform twice in Little Rock: at 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church, 1003 N. Tyler St.; and at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at Calvary Baptist Church, 5700 Cantrell Road.
