LR museum sponsors Kwanzaa celebration

-

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock is sponsoring a citywide Kwanzaa celebration that kicks off Saturday.

The weeklong celebration will feature events at partner locations beginning Saturday and will culminate in a community feast Wednesday. The center is partnering with the House of Art; Better Community Development Inc.; Harambee Market; Sue Cowan Williams Library; Simply Najiyyah’s Fishboat and More; and Pyramid Art, Books and Custom Framing for the celebration.

A full schedule of the week’s events is available at the center’s website, mosaictemplarscenter.com. All events are free and open to the public.

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, a museum of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, is dedicated to the telling of black history in Arkansas from 1870 to the present, especially in the areas of politics, business and the arts.

Kwanzaa was founded by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966 as a celebration of black heritage.

During the Kwanzaa period, new and gently used books can be donated at any of the partner locations for the Miss Teen Tours Program and Pageant. Miss Teen Tours is a six-month character building, community service, education enrichment, and cultural awareness program for girls ages 11 to 18.
