ONGOING Scholarship Application Deadline
WHITE COUNTY — The deadline for applying for White County Single Parent Scholarship Fund Inc. spring 2016 scholarships is Jan. 7. The organization awards scholarships to White County single parents who have minor children and are pursuing postsecondary education to achieve skilled employment. Ozarka College Spring Registration
MELBOURNE — Current and new students may register for spring courses at Ozarka College, which will begin Jan. 11. Students may also register for the summer terms, which begin May 16. Both spring and summer courses are offered at each of Ozarka’s four campuses in Melbourne, Ash Flat, Mammoth Spring and Mountain View. Several programs can also be completed online. Second Time Around Bookstore
SEARCY — The Literacy Council of White County operates the Second Time Around Bookstore at 811 S. Main St., Suite D. Proceeds from the sale of donated books support the mission of helping adults in the community improve their literacy and English-language skills. Yoga in the Gallery

Casino Night Fundraiser
BATESVILLE — The White River Health System Foundation’s The Golden Age of Hollywood Casino Night will take place Dec. 31 at the Barnett Building, 267 E. Main St. Gaming will include black jack, craps, roulette and slot machines. There will also be a Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament. No cash or prizes will be awarded for winning. Instead, winning game chips can be redeemed for raffle tickets to enter drawings for luxury door prizes. First Day Hikes
POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park will offer two free guided hikes Jan. 1 as part of America’s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative. A 1.5-mile history-themed hike on the Black River Trail will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. An easy, nature-themed, 1-mile-loop hike that circles the lake on the Trapper Lake Trail will be held from 2-3 p.m. Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Leashed pets are welcome. There will be free hot chocolate and snacks at the end of each hike. For more information, call the park at (870) 892-4708. Davidsonville Historic State Park is on Arkansas 166, a 15-minute drive south of Pocahontas.
