3 in soybean contest top 100 bushels per acre
Three participants in the 2015 Arkansas soybean-yield contest exceeded 100 bushels per acre, the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board and the Arkansas Soybean Association announced.
Perry Galloway of Woodruff County, 108.759 bushels per acre; Matt Miles of Desha County, 108.717, and Charles Galloway of Woodruff County, 100.935, were the top producers in the contest, according to a news release from the soybean association.
The association said 98 soybean producers participated in the contest.
The contest divided producers into seven geographic regions and one statewide conventional (or nongenetically modified organism) category. Cash prizes will be awarded at the association’s Jan. 26 annual meeting to the top three contestants in each division producing at least 60 bushels per acre.
According to the news release, the winners for the Northeast Delta are Mike Hook, Casey Hook and Kenny and Garrett Qualls, all of Craighead County; for the Northeast, Karl Garner of Cross County; for the White River Basin, Perry Galloway of Woodruff County, Charles Galloway of Woodruff County, and Kyle Fuller of Monroe County; for the Grand Prairie region, Brandon Rogers of Arkansas County, Lynn Marshall of Lonoke County, and Reagan Counce of Arkansas County; for the East Central Delta, Gere and Bill Carnathan of Phillips County and Michael Taylor Jr. of Phillips County; for the Southeast, Matt Miles of Desha County, Sherrie Miles of Ashley County, and David Bennett of Chicot County; for the Western, Eddie Tackett of Pope County, Cameron Southard of Pope County, and Lucas Moore of Conway County, and for the conventional category, Nelson Crow of Drew County, Mark Nix of Cross County, and Jason Smith of Desha County.
